MS Exchange ActiveSync Email Client / App

Quick history ... I have always used the stock Samsung Email app for exchange/work email, and it worked OK on my GS4 until for some reason it just got really slow to load ... but it worked fine. Then I got my GS6 and started using the Samsung Email app, and it too is ok. Runs fast and clean, but is missing some features I would like to have ... and is not really graphically that great at showing read vs. unread emails. Main functions I feel like I'm missing are quicker access to marking emails read/unread, sorting options ... and just a better looking interface that's easier to see read items vs. unread items.

I then installed (side loaded) the MS Exchange Service APK so I could use the Gmail app to manage my MS Exchange email. That worked fine too, but then I decided I'd rather keep my work email in a separate app.

I tried the Outlook app, but didn't like it. Then ... I downloaded and tried to setup K-9 Mail, but it won't connect to my exchange account. It tries, but for some reason just won't authenticate. So, I'm back to square one, and now looking for the "best" Exchange Server Email App out there to use. It does not have to be free, but I would rather not pay anything more than about $5 for it, if I do have to pay for one. Point being, it doesn't have to be free ... but just not some expensive thing, or subscription service.

So ... To anyone who uses exchange email on a regular basis ... what's the "go-to" app for this? I don't know if you all will consider me lazy for saying this, but I really don't want to go through all the downloading and installing of a bunch of apps to find out if they even work, and then if I like them. I would like to trust some of you here who have run through the paces and already know which app(s) are worth using. It need not be fancy ... just something plain and simple, with features that are useful and efficiency based ...

Thanks.

I have to use exchange mail because of work . Started using type mail app. Works great!

I use the app Nine. I used to use Touchdown, but Nine will display my work Exchange calendar in the calendar apps you have installed on your phone (Today calendar and Google Calendar for me).

I have several exchange accounts (mostly O365). I use the native S6 email app, Outlook, OWA and Mailwise.

Check out Mailwise. Seems to work very well, works with my various Exchange accounts, integrates with Phone calendar, contacts. And its free (for now).

Meant to add, if you long press on an email you get check boxes, can select several and then the More menu has option to mark as read

Nothing but Touchdown (that I've found anyway) support the GAL and calendar categories so I've had to stay with it.

I have been a happy user of Nine. They are constantly adding new features and it works well with my Office 365 account. The app is constantly being updated to fix bugs and add new features. Recently it received a material design update and has an interface that is much like the Gmail app.

Nine is a wonderful mail app for Exchange. It does display unread email count on the icon badge. I was also blown away in that it also syncs email categories. So if you make a category to label email in Outlook, Nine will also sync to the same category and label right down to the same or similar label color. A recent update also brought swiping that can customize left or right swiping to delete, archive, etc.

I think I've narrowed it down to Nine and the stock email app for my Exchange needs. Currently using Type mail for my Gmail account mainly because it allows me to limit the syncing intervals and also ungroup conversations.

Yes, I've already walked down the path you are on.
The best? That would be Touchdown by Nitrodesk, that is until the lollipop OS update was installed. You can see my thread on the lollipop mess by searching for Touchdown. The short of the TD story: tech support has diligently been trying to help me fix it and has now escalated to the "Developer" for a fix. It has to do with Exchange Server 2003. Coincidentally, we are upgrading our server and it should fix the problem (I hope). So, I am awaiting a TD fix from the Developer.
Meanwhile, I researched and demo'd a number of Outlook type apps and landed on "Nine". After running the trial I just purchased it for $9.99 US and will keep it until Touchdown is fixed. You can read more on my Nine review by searching for the Touchdown thread. It's not as compact and self-sufficient as TD but it's getting the job done for now.

Nine works well although it's $10.
I've had Touchdown for some years (also $10) and it's a better tool but lollipop and our 2003 Exchange Server are not compatible so I had to switch to Nine. We are getting a new server and when it's setup I plan to switch back to Touchdown (now it's a Norton product). See if the trial version of Touchdown works for you first.

Nine is the best one for me as well. You won't regret the 10 bugs, it is really that good

I used to use Nine and agree with others that it is a fine app for Exchange. But I recently tried Mailwise and found that I prefer its interface. Looks sharper, cleaner to me. Otherwise I found the functionality between the two to be comparable.

I was always a fan out Touchdown but it doesn't currently work with lollipop. I've recently switched to using OWA Webmail since I needed something quick and easy to setup. So far it works great but I'm hesitant to pay for it since the developer doesn't accept payment though the play store.

That is not accurate that Touchdown does not work with lollipop. I am running Touchdown on the new HTC One m9 and it works without issue.

Are Nice and Mailwise both email only apps? What do you do for your calendar app, do you just use the stock phone calendar app?
