MS Exchange ActiveSync Email Client / App

TouchDown works very well with Lollipop,

I have been using it for the past years without issues. And still use it on my note 3.

As some pointed out, might be an issue with exchange 2003 and lollipop. Not touchdown and lollipop.

Ran it on exchange 2010 and now on office 365 no problems.

The only downside, the interface is a bit dated to my taste (it still looks too much like outlook 2003 in my opinion). But damn do they have a lot of options available ! Calendar, categories, alerts, rules... it's just like using MS Outlook for your PC but on your phone.

Tried K9--could not get it to work.

Nine--does it handle additional non-Exchange email accounts?

AquaMail may be a choice for multiple account and Exchange accounts. I think it is $4.99. Liked the interface. But I really like the plain stock email app running on Kit Kat. So, I rooted my phone to be able to freeze the incessant reminders to "upgrade" to Lollipoop. Also froze gMail app.

Ultimately, when this rooted 4.4.4 phone breaks, I think I migrate to IOS as those who do not like the gMail style interface don't need this hassle.

I feel your pain! Mark read/unread is the first issue for me. Why the hell would they make things worse?
Same issue here, except I tried the following all failed:
Nine, Gmail app, Blue Mail, "All Email Providers", "email box for fast email". All of these failed to connect to my exchange work, only the native on my Samsung 6 worked. Why is that?

Is there a way to downgrade the native app to a better one? It wasn't always this bad.
