MuitiWindow on Kitkat update just received today

So, I'm confused... Can you or can you not run 4 windows with the new KitKat update? Hahaha I just updated a few days ago but haven't tried it and my tablet is at home

That makes two of us! (lol) I'd like to see a screen shot of a 4 paned multi-window from someone with stock KK, no special apps and NOT rooted. Dale?

So far I can only get two apps up (1/2 screen) at same tine, but you can run 4 (maybe 5),... 3+ will be in form of tiles if you press blue button and select Switch Application option... Best I have been able to figure out....

IF you scroll down to bottom of multi screen and select and read "help", it says only 2 apps can be used at same time....Sounds pretty official to me...

The help screen for Kit Kat on the Note 10.1 (2014 edition) on mine says you can use 5 apps for pop-up view and multi view says 2 apps. What is the difference for pop- view and multiview window? Help screen is not super helpful. At least 4.3 had a full pdf manual could download. Have not seen anything KitKat yet.

5 apps in pop-up? Wow! Maybe we could do that before, I just didn't realize it hehehe It sounds like the KitKat update didn't change the number of apps that can run on this tablet.

As for pop-up view is the feature where you press the button on the S-Pen, select 'pop up window', draw a window (pointless gesture, IMHO, as the app ends up taking whatever space it's programmed to) and then select the app you want to have in a pop-up, floating window. MultiWindow mode is just that, two apps running at the same time, side by side, but not in floating windows.

I can. I'm rooted, running the stock KitKat ROM by Hashcheck over at XDA. As far as I can tell no tweaks were added for running 4 windows at once. I do use the MultiWindow Plus app, that allows me to add any of my apps to the multiwindow, but that has nothing to do with the ability to run 4 at a time.

Don't know about Hashheck's ROM (but if it's a ROM, it surely has something modified, so maaaaaybe the 4-window mode option has been enabled), but MultiWindow Plus DOES enable the 4-window mode.

Nice...never realized that was a feature of that app! Nice investigative work! So it seems the 4 window option is not enabled with stock KitKat.

Sadly, no It's there in the code, and if it works on the Pro Line (which has pretty much the same hardware, but with less RAM) it should work with the 2014 Note 10.1, but I think Sammy wanted to differentiate the Pro Line somehow, and their updated UI along with 4-window mode seems to be what they chose.

Well I'm glad that's finally cleared up! I had a feeling it was only 2 apps with the KK update (on a non rooted device)

I tried this feature and was able to get 5 app windows running at the same time. However what real world would this be useful for?

But were you able to see then all on screen at same time?.... 5 running with two on screen and 3 in background is just the norm...

Yes. My question still is why would you want 5 windows on 10.1 screen at the same time. This is a tablet not a desktop computer which has a large monitor?

i cant get two windows on my RCA quadcore tablet with kitkat. Ive tried rooting and you cant finish the root without a desktop. Is there any advice or help. I have a use for the multi screens it's called the infinite black its a game app.

I just installed the app from XDA and it says that my device/ROM was not compatible, I did upgrade to the latest update from Samsung. Stock touchwiz, rooted, SM-p600.

the kk multi window help screen says 4, and I have no trouble getting 4 on the screen. I can even open a 5th in pop up mode, but think that does require rooting. I waited till after my warranty ended, and still was paranoid rooting , but it was really a cake walk and I'm loving that I went for it
