Hi all. First post. Got first android couple weeks ago. Nexus 7. Enjoying it but....

The multi-user capability seemed cool, so set up accounts for two people in family. Did some shopping for useful apps at the store. Now I find that apps that I bought and downloaded in one user account are not available in the other account. Seems wrong. I paid for them for the DEVICE. An expensive one that let's me print directly to my wireless printer is great, but can't use it from the other account. I'm supposed to buy another copy for it?! Did some research and found some solutions that require "rooting" the device. Do I really have to go to that extreme? All of my Apple and PC devices share apps between users. If I just go back to single user by deleting the second will I lose the apps I bought for that user?

Did you use the same Google account for all those other accounts?

I know this is probably not the answer you are looking for, but you do not buy an app for the device. You buy an app under a user account. The only way to have a pay app available for both user accounts is to associate the account you bought the apps with with both of the accounts on the device.

Thanks for the replies! I guess this is me not understanding the way things work. I set my wife and I up with individual Google accounts and bought some apps through her account and some through mine. I gather that's where I wrong. So if I deleted, say, my user account from the device, would the apps I bought disappear with it? If so, could I then log into the app store with my account and re-download the apps, with them then being installed to my wife's profile (now the only one on the device_ so where else could they go). The app store would recognize that I'd already bought those apps, wouldn't it? Other solutions? Thanks again.

Add the account with the purchased apps to the other user...install the app.

Apps are purchased by the user, not the device. Those apps will follow that user everywhere it goes...whether it's a s3 or a nexus 7...

if you buy a million devices and use you account to login all those million devices will download all the apps you purchased.
I am not sure if deleting an account will remove the apps but i would take a guess and say it will but its worth the try.

How were they paid? Were they paid from the same credit card/bank account using Play Store? They're associated with the account used to pay. So you shouldn't have any problem, if they were paid through the same financial connection.

Thought I'd posted my end solution, but I don't see it here. Thanks to everyone's help all is well. Just had to log into my wife's profile on the nexus, then log into the store with MY login ID and download the apps again. The store recognized I'd already paid for them. They installed in my wife's profile this time. Only thing I'm wondering about now is do I actually have two copies of these apps on the machine? If I install two of everything I'll be using up lot of men. Thanks again.
