Multiple issues...

So... here's the deal. I love the Droid, hands down the neatest phone I've owned. However, this phone has many problems. I have been through FIVE phones now, and about to move onto my sixth soon. This is getting ridiculous. Here are all the issues I've had:

1. Couldn't even connect to activate service. Fail.
2. Random shutdowns and I had a couple minor mishaps including the dog biting it. Fail.
3. Bottom of phone was deformed out of the box, couldn't even put a case on it. Fail.
4. Kept dropping out of 3G and was slow. Calls sucked. Fail.
5. Current phone, now having signal issues. In downtown Reston, Sterling, and Leesburg (all have towers) and phone drops out of 3G into 1x and signal strength goes haywire. Watched the strength go from 60 dBm to 100 dBm even at a stop light. Goes from two bars to three, to one, to zero, to four. I even stopped by the Verizon store in Reston and one of the display models had the same problem, other two there had full signal. About to... Fail.

I will admit, I don't miss my Blackberry, but the two things I could take from it are the push email and signal strength. My Storm had all five bars of signal almost everywhere I went.

I hate going into the store and saying "Here I am again, back for another," even though my thirty day warranty ends early February. But as of right now there's no other good phone that keeps up with the Droid. I was going to get the Omnia II but that was a disappointment.

What should I do? Should I keep going back within my thirty days until I get a working model, if I do? Or should I go back to my Storm for now and wait for the Nexus One? I'm lost...:(

amazing the issues people have when others like me have basically none.

sorry for all the bad luck though. its a great phone but maybe jut not a good fit for you.

maybe try the nexus one with tmobile or use it with ATT.

Wow that's nuts!
My Droid operates just great. I know that the current OS 2.0.1 has some minor bugs in it, but when 2.1 comes along (hopefully next week) these bugs will be gone.

Sorry about your bad Droid experiences.:(

Wow...it fascinates me how some people just have the worst luck with an item I to own. Going on 3 months now and I have never had a problem.

Maybe sixth times a charm???

I would suggest a new Verizon store, that one could be selling "New" used phones that others have returned.

It happened to someone else on this forum, the phone still had contacts in it when he got it.

Hopefully I'm not getting a new used phone... I would be very pissed off.

And maybe sixth will be a charm. I've determined if six isn't the magic number, it will be going back and no seven.

very strange. Not to be a hater or a downer, but if you've had to replace the phone 6 times id wager it's not the phone but other circumstances such as your area or that the phone just doesn't operate in general up to your standards.

Call verizon tech service and have them overnight you one your store might be full of defective ones.

I say try the Droid until ur 30days runs out. If u dont have a working one by then go back to ur Storm and wait for the next Android phone to come. Its not worth the headache.

I have been to four different stores already. I may end up just having them send me one in the mail then, good idea. Ugh I just want a working phone, you know?

You're right in that perspective. I will give the Droid one last shot, and if it fails again, then back to the trusty BB until another Android comes.

that's nutz.. I got mine 2 days ago, by FedEx, right from Verizon. (early upgrade.. couldn't wait to get rid of the Storm). There's been torrential rain in my area last few days, and I've been in several hospitals, including basements where most people have no signal.. I've had pretty much uninterrupted 3G everywhere, all the time. The browser is SO much better than the Storm. Are yours failing right out of the box? Or are you installing apps? There is also a 2.1 upgrade coming, supposedly. Sorry about your luck.. doesn't make much sense. Prob not a bad idea to try and get a NEW one right from Verizon by mail. Keep us posted on how things go and what you find out.

Thanks guys. I have to go up to the local Verizon store to pay part of my monthly bill and will play around with the Droids up there to compare. Otherwise I believe my next course of action is to get one shipped to me BRAND NEW from the warehouse. I will post the results.

so this morning i woke up with a dead droid eventhough it was fully charged before going to sleep.. it sucked because my droid is my alarm clock which made me be late for work.this has happened twice now. has anyone have this problem? i also get random restarts.

RE: Couldn't connect to activate service...

Just ran into this one. For whatever reason, the Verizon auto-activate line only works during normal business hours (EST here, ymmv). Try again during daylight hours. Also, I've gotten a busy signal on the line, so try again until it goes through.
