Multitasking fix

I don't know if anyone has tried this but I was browsing xda-developer's forums... xda-developers - View Single Post - Multitasking my ars!

And apparently everyone is getting good results by following this:

"From your Home screen, tap All apps, Go into Developer Options, CHECK Don't keep activities. Press the Home key (Sense will reload). Restart the phone by tapping and holding the Power button until the Options menu appears, then tap Restart. Once back up, go back into Developer Options, UNCHECK Don't keep activities. Press the Home key (Sense will reload again)."

I guess that Restart part is pretty important for it to do anything. Some say it works like a charm, others say it screws up crap. I don't know, try it at your own risk. I don't have my EVO so I can't try it.

That is the same thing they told me to do in an Email when I complained about the multitasking (the third time). I don't see how it makes any sense (no pun intended). What, are we supposed to do all that just once ever? Anytime we reboot? Once a week? Every day? After having used several apps???

Sounds like a case of "if the customer complains about multitasking, tell them to do this......oh and make sure we don't hear about it. We don't care."

I tried it a while back and it made no difference. YMMV.

Let me tidy your list up a bit as follows :

1. On MY Evo4GLTE.
2. On MY Evo4GLTE
3. True (No alterations necessary).

If you're open to rooting and flashing I'd stick with the Evo. It's only a matter of time before we get a fully functional CM9 and then 10 ROM that'll be free of all the multitasking issues.

That's what I said about the EVO 3D. Still waiting on ANY usable CMish ROM. Not a single ROM works.

At least ICS source is out for the LTE now, but who knows.

And BTW, I'm tired of seeing "Sense crashed" which does not happen. It gets moved out of memory and needs to restart.. like any other app.

Didn't work for me. I just went through this line by line and performed every step as written. After performing the final step, rebooting the phone and turning off the "Don't keep activities" option and pressing the Home button, I opened up 5-6 apps and bounced around between them. Almost every single one of them "refreshed" when I switched to it. I had Chrome open to this thread and focused in on your post and after multitasking away and back again, the page reloaded and I was back to the post at the top of the page. HTC has a very short period of time to get this fixed before I am done with them. I now lay all my hopes of having a fully functional smartphone in the more than capable hands of the developers on XDA. PLEASE get me a fully function AOKP ROM... PLEASE!!! Oh yeah, and I need a way to root the OTA version 1.22.651.3 too! THANKS!!

Tisk tisk, were you one of those impatient souls that took the OTA while rooted after the dev community practically screamed not to? :p

There are... ways... to root after the OTA. They involve a little more hackery than the one-click methods though ;). I do know that Regaw and others are working on it

I was impressed that they called me, and on a weekend.. I also lobbied hard for a removable battery in their next version of phone.

If they fix the multi-tasking issue, and the red issue that apparently bothered me more than most people, I'm going to be really tempted to sell the S3 and switch back to the EVO.

That's pretty cool that you actually talked to someone from a major corporation or at least a consumer relations division. Good thing you could provide technical feedback about those issues, you were the voice for a lot of people. Seems everyone else only gets a cookie cutter email reply...but you actually had a pretty lengthy discussion. Hopefully they were recording or taking notes.

The Evo 3D is kind of a unique case since it still hasn't gotten the ICS update on Sprint (although the unlocked has) and it's always going to be hard to port a big jump like GB to ICS, in addition to that you need all the drivers for the camera. I just took a spin by the XDA Development forum for it though and it's a stretch to say none of the CM9/AOSP ROMs are usable. I didn't see any that were fully functional but I did see one where it all worked apart from 3D and USB Mass Storage. That sounds very usable to me.

Anyway, for the Evo LTE we have deck's CM9 ROM that mostly works right now (outgoing MMS, camcorder, and panorama are still broken), and that was all work done before we got source. Now, from what I've seen we haven't gotten any updates for that ROM with those issues fixed because he's working on a CM10 ROM. He uploaded a video yesterday of it booted. So I think it's pretty safe to say we'll get some fully functional CM10 ROMs in the very near future.
