Multitasking

Hey guys,

I am on sprint network and I have the Htc Evo on pre-order. I just found out about this multitasking issue. How bad is it really? Some say that if you are doing one thing and you go to answer a txt that it closes down what you are doing before? Is it really that bad?

Pretty much, yes.. but the simple solution to THIS specific issue, is to use SMS Popup. It allows you to send quick replies. The "popup" appears ontop of whatever app you're in.. if you quick reply, it sends the text and it never actually leaves your current running app. It works WONDERS.

It ain't broke -- it's "gimped" by design. Welcome to open-source ladies and gents.

I'm not that annoyed by this bug. It's not affected me yet.

What I am worried about is background services and push notifications. If I load up Voxer, will I still receive messages after I exit the app?

How does this memory situation effect background services/push notification services? I mean, with some people mentioning GTALK is closing, this is VERY troubling

yesterday, while waiting in my dentist's office, i was in the middle of a long-winded facebook comment when i jumped into the browser to grab a web address (from an already open page) to paste at the end of the comment. when i went back to facebook, my newsfeed was reloaded and i had to start the comment over.

Lesson learned, no more "long-winded" comments, those are the worst.

:D :p

I keed, I keed.

Wow, that's annoying. That is one thing that I can do with my ip4 that I find very helpful. Leaving an email or text, opening another app to retrieve specific info, cut, then go back to my original text/email and paste.

The One X can't do this because HTC wrote it out of ICS!? That's a real deal breaker. I see my phone as my portable pc. I like the ability to drag/drop files, unlike the ip4, which unless you have an app that allows the ip4 to be used as an FTP server, there is no way to add files other than through iTunes.

Any chance that true multitasking could be brought back with a custom ROM for this phone?

I know it's up to me. But you have used the device. Would it change your decision if you had the opportunity to make it over again

I would still purchase it. It's a very sleek, sexy looking device.

When the Galaxy SIII hits, it'll have the SAME Krait S4 SoC inside so the only difference between the One X and the SIII will be the physical design, and whether or not you can stomach TouchWiz or stomach Sense 4.

As of right now, Sense 4 is very elegant and well designed and looks like it has Jony Ive all over it... Touchwiz looks like it was thrown together by some construction workers using crayons..

A perfect example of why I went back to my Vivid and will never buy another HTC phone as long as they continue to handle multitasking this way.

Want to open a YouTube video and let it load while you do something else? Nope, as far as I can see. That and the reloading of web pages when you head back to the browser are a couple of the things starting to really bother me.

Absolutely. Custom ROMs can change anything about the system. Find an AOSP version and it'll work as intended (whenever someone makes one that is)

Does it reload your we page even if that's the only program you have open?

This seems to work fine, but that isn't multitasking in the literal sense of the word... I'm messing between Twitter and Chrome and it's hard to find any rhyme or reason in what causes it to reload.

That's good to hear, but the ATT has a locked boot loader and they will probably keep it that way. I know that one can root the One X (ATT model included). Time will tell if someone writes that killer rom that brings back true multitasking. I'll be sitting on the sidelines for a while watching. Shame HTC gimped ICS, damn nice hard ware too. Looks I'll be keeping my stodgy ip4 a bit longer.

it's working as intended according to HTC. They wrote in a hyper aggressive memory management system in order for sense to operate more smoothly.
