Hi guys,

Maybe not you average low-end question here, but at her age my mother has expressed she would like to be on-line because she misses a lot when we all exchange Facebook photos and her volunteer work often sends mails she does not get.

So I decided to get her an internet connection and a tablet, there is no need to get fancy with this as it will be used for Facebook, probably over time some browsing and email mostly. When nephews and/or niece are with here they might play the occasional game or watch a movie but that's it. I have been away from Android for quite a while (since my HTC Desire days) and am not up to speed on current developments besides the usual tech blah blah..You know who you are.. ;)

My main question would be about the SD card, how integrated will it be as storage with Android 4.0 or up? Can I get a cheaper 4 or 8GB tablet and stick a 32 GB SD card in I have lying around doing nothing. Then CPU wise I think anything current would be good enough, but correct me if I am wrong.

Way too much words for two simple questions, but you get the idea.

Tanks for your answers!
Paul

the equipment you select for a non tech person could come back to haunt you. just saying!

nexus 7 or 10 period

Obviously that does not answer my questions at all and I see no reason why it must be a Nexus 10 in this case. That would be like buying her a Porsche because she needs a car. But feel free to enlighten me here..

I'd say get a nexus 7 used for super cheap. I got a 16 gig with a case for $150

I may get one for my mom, so I've been on the same thought train. I think having a page that is dedicated to each task she may want will be how I do it. One page only with the Google plus widget at to display family posts only. One page for books and music... And I guess that's it.

Long story short... I can't see how you can get cheaper than the N7,with any quality that is, and the absolute basic setup of stock Android is, I think, the best for people like our moms.

And, you'll never have to worry about her seeing the words "memory card error"

(sorry for all the typos, the swype update is messing up, so now I have to teach SwiftKey for a while... Blah)
