Music Downlaoding

Hello all I am new to this forum as I have only just purchased a nexsus s. Great phone, and a great sit. Lots of helpful info thanks. I am however stuck on a problem and really need help.
PLEASE PLEASE can some one help me? For days now I have been trying to put music onto my nexsus and dam no luck. :''(
Here goes; I am running Ubuntu 11 on my laptop. I connect my phone to the lappy and follow the on screen prompts for both the phone and lappy. I mount the phone as described and it shows up. I then can see my phone and connect to it. On the phone I see 3 I assume factory folders. I copy music from my lappy and copy and paste onto my phone in a folder I named "music". I know have 4 folders. The music files copy ok into the folder and then when done I unmount the phone and disconnect. I then go o the music player on my phone and cannot find any msic or see my new folder.PLEASE what could I be doing wrong? Now 4 days later and reading all possible info on this site and I am none the wiser. Please someone help....!!!!
All the music is in mp3 format also.

is the music folder located under \sdcard? thats where I have mine and it works just fine. Also try Miro to see if it can see your phone. It lets you load your music right from the software

Where do I find the "\sd card " folder, as when its connected the 3 factory folders that come up are not called that. I have "andriod, lost and another" not one called \sdcard?

Is there a folder up in your file manager? I would assume that those three folders are within the /sdcard folder

If your music player is Power Amp, then you need to scan your folders. This is an option while in Power Amp. Not sure about any other players.
