I'm coming from the rezound which had the HTC music app that i truly enjoyed! Is there a music app for the Maxx besides "my music" and google music that works great? I am not impressed at all.

Well it depends on what will impress you. I don't know anything about the HTC Music App, but I know they enjoyed the Beats gimmick. You could try Poweramp which is nice and provides you with a good equalizer.

Personally I have enjoyed Google Music and feel like it provides what I need in a cell phone music app. But I am relatively chill when it comes to the music aspect.

Not sure what you are looking for, playing music that's saved on your device, or streaming it.. For streaming, I love Spotify.. I believe $7.95 per month lets you stream anything in their library, and even download it locally (as long as you have a subscription you can play it)..

Also, for MP3's saved to your device try Winamp, Cloudskipper, or Poweramp.. Heck, even Amazon MP3 isn't half bad.

BTW, while Google Music isn't a great interface, it's great in concept because you can play all of your music from the cloud (their servers), and even make it available locally if you want after that.. I have about 35GB of songs on their server, and I am not aware of any restrictions.

Winamp: wireless sync, ringtone setting capability, nice interface. Check it out.

Ouch...it's a RAZR, Maxx.

Have used Cloudskipper since my days with my Droid X... I highly recommend it, has every option I want including an equalizer you can customize. Also, it's free...:D

Poweramp

I hear you, brother. I also owned a Rezound for 4 months and loved the Beats Audio. I would seriously consider an HTC phone in the future if it had Beats.

I assume your question involves the audio quality of the music. In other words, you are looking for a music app that plays music files already stored on your micro SD card or internal phone storage, but sounds better than the stock Razr Maxx music player. You need a music app with adjustable sound equalizers.

I have tried Winamp and Poweramp, both paid versions. For the music I listen to (extreme metal like death and black metal) the Winamp was only a moderate improvement over the Razr's stock music player. I tried many different sound equalizer settings and none were really good. Poweramp, on the other hand, does a better job. Not quite as good as Beats Audio, but very close.

Here is a screen shot of my audio equalizer settings for Poweramp.

I use Spotify, love the android app they have. It's even better with the radio feature they just added. I've gotten rid of my entire music collection, now i just stream everything. No need for local files anymore :)

Just downloaded the Spotify app and am trying their premium service free for 30 days. I only wish the app had a built in sound equalizer.

I wish Android would properly classify albums by the Album Artist tag. It has historically been really faulty, although recently Google has made strides in making it better. Still, with the Google Play Music app, it seems to substitute Album Artist with the Artist from the last track of the album, which works for the most part. But it's silly when, for example, the last track of "The Essential Billy Joel" is an instrumental piece that is actually played by the classical pianist Richard Joo (who is tagged as the Artist for that track), and so Google Play Music lists the whole album as being by Richard Joo.

I've searched a while on the web for solutions, but apparently it is still a problem with how Android handles music files. A workaround is Mortplayer Music, which organizes by folder, but the interface leaves a bit to be desired.

Anyone else know of a decent workaround? Don't suggest Winamp, Poweramp, Meridian, Doubletwist, or virtually any other player on the market besides Mortplayer.

Well this "other" player i use lets you edit the tag info and then places it where it should be AND downloads the correct album art afterwards...

Which one, or did I miss it in another post?

Oh, never mind--you mean Poweramp?

I'm not bagging on Poweramp--just never tried it. Looks pretty awesome, and I read in the description that it sets up its own separate database, bypassing the problems with how Android reads tags. I guess on the whole, though, I'd just rather not have to install a 3rd media player (apart from the stock Moto player and Google Play Music) to get everything right, so I was hoping someone might know of a workaround to get things to display correctly. I'll probably just keep using Play Music and tolerate the few inaccuracies ...

I loath stock music players. Never have the options i want/need/expect/demand. Besides, poweramp has a free fully functional trial. What's to lose? I believe it is what all stock players should strive to be like. Im only pushing it because i have tried (and paid for) many music players that were just crap....

How about memory usage? Does it stay open in the background if you're not using it, taking up any CPU cycles?

Ok, you convinced me. I'll check it out.

Perhaps you should change your handle to "bradenfontofallinformationaine" ...
