So on the 23rd of august i got my note 8 and I was worried about burn in since the day I got the phone and made sure to not have aod turned on .i keep the bottom navi bar hidden at all times.and I keep the screen brightness at 40 percent or less non auto.but today noticed the line going across the top of my screen where the status bar is.im so disappointed because I took all the correct steps to avoid burn in.ive got burn in on every phone I've ever owned.but not after 3 months like this.

I heard Samsung with replace my screen under warranty reading around here, but I have some questions,my gold note 8 has zero light leak around the edge.i got super lucky and nearly all the note 8 phones I've handled had light leak.what I'm asking is what will happen if they replace my burnt in screen for a screen that shows light leak due to the black tape not covering enough of the glass.will they keep on replacing the screen until it's correct I hope so. This phone cost me a lot.

Also will my phone still be waterproof .it had better be paid a lot of cash
And lastly how long will they take to fix my phone ,and will I lose all my data as I can't back my phone up to the cloud due to cloud errors amd my laptop is broken

re:

I'd recommend going through the warranty process and don't accept an inferior replacement.

re:

I broke my screen 15 days after I got the phone and samsung did an amazing job with screen replacement. Phone is back better than new and still waterproof.

You seem to be very paranoid from burn ins. You don't need to disable AOD, hide nav bar and drop screen bright to 40%. That's crazy. You are killing your phone. So many people, including myself are using the phone to its fullest with no issues what so ever.

So u have a picture of your screen burn in? I have not heard of a status bar screen burn in before. Post a picture so we can help give better advice.

re:

I can't take a pic .It's just a faint line going across the top of the screen in the position on the status bar.
Ok so I'll take my phone to the Samsung centre today a tell them fix it.but if I end up with light leak or pink tint im gonna flip the f out.
I'll probably say I want a brand new phone no refurb and end up having to have it replaced 10 times as everyone that I know has ugly light leaking from there note 8 .And I can't accept such a flaw when mine was perfect.
I even changed the wallpaper offer to try avoid burn in.reason I was worried about burn in was my note 4 suffered badly at 12 month mark.so I decided to be as careful as possible with my note 8.And still got burn in but this time at only 3 months light usage

Took my note 8 in today they said they need to put a new screen in.takes a week .i pret to god they dont gove me a **** screen with pink tint and light leak from the edges.if so its going back over and over untill its perfect like my phone was .

Wow, you must be a SUPER heavy user! None of my phones ever got burn in.

re:

This is why I prefer LCD over OLED any day!
XZ Premium fantastic screen with no chance of retention/burn-in.

re:

No im a very light user.i try to keep the screen off as long as possible.10 sec timeout etc etc

re:

Cant take a screen shot i took the phone to the service centre they have it now

re:

Have some positive vibes man. They will fix it right. Just relax and let Samsung do their work. Holy cats you are getting worked out

re:

My phone is ready to collect.im picking it up tommrow.ill update the thread and tell you if i will need to make them replace the screen again due to them causing light leak from the edges or ugly pink tink or some other issue. I wont be able to test light leak in the service centre as its not dark obviously so ill fully inspect the phone when i get it home and let you know if sammy can fix a phone to my very very high near ocd standards

Update guys went to pic up my phone and the replacement screen has discusting light leaking all around.i refused to accept my phone and demmanded they change the screen again.i was one of the lucky few that had zero light leak on my note 8 .so im not accepting a screen that looks liks ****.luckily the staff could see the issue when i told then go in a dark area and look.so next replacement screen had better be perfect
i think they will need to swap the screen 10 times or more untill i get one. That is perfect like my original screen.i not giving up and accepting light leak.i dont use a case so people cant say use a case to hide it .plus hiding the issue is stupid on a device of this price.

I admire your persistence :-)
haven't even checked either of my 2 notes for light leak but I use minimal slim clear cases so would probably have noticed.
what country of manufacture does yours say on the box?
I seeing a pattern appearing that the American snapdragon models are the ones having most problems

re:

Not sure the coutnty code on the box bro.its a uk ee note 8.like i said i got super lucky with my phone as it was perfect when i got it on release day.ive checked around 20 note 8 devices and all had light leak some worse than others. Its like one in 50 handets imo that have no light leak.thats why i said i was lucky with mine.i explained to the samsumg people in the store the reson for the light leak is the black tape on the glass doesnt cover the edges correctly. Imo it will take a few months for me to get my phone back and fixed correctly. As i know when they call me next week and say collect it im 99 percent sure there will be ugly ugly light leaking around the edges.i would rather have a screen with mild burn in that light leak.srs

Did it ever occur to you that because your phone had no light leak that perhaps that was the cause of your screen burn in? Perhaps a little light leak is a good thing. It dissipates some of the light that for the same brightness setting might cause screen burn-in.

I am only saying all this because it seems a bit obsessive to look for light leak that most wouldn't notice, except perhaps, in a pitch dark room with brightness set too high.

Frankly, I don't know if my N8 has light leak or not. Furthermore, I'm not going to look for it or worry about it. Life has too many worries that this doesn't need to be added to my list. From your inspection of so many N8s, it would seem to be the norm. So mine probably has it.

Finally, I would think that screen burn-in is far more noticeable in normal or bright light than any light leak. Moreover, in a dark room with approximately low brightness settings, you shouldn't notice light leak unless you are going out of your way to look for. If I were you, I would relax and just enjoy your great phone.

Screen burn has zero to do with having light leak or not lol.and you can see light leak even in the daylightor dim room even with the screen brightness not full .its just very obvious at night.and no im not obsessing and no i will not accept a cosmetically faulty device that samsung addmited is a flaw and says return if you have light leak..my phone was perfect before going to the service centre other than the burn in.so it will need to be perfect when it leaves.and lastly i will make them change the screen 50 times or morep if i have to .if thats what it takes to get my phone back looking like it should.and yes i would prefer minor screen burn in than any light leak.and lastly light leak is due to the black tape on the screen edges not being aligned correctly and not reaching the end of the glass so the light leaks incase you didnt know

I have it on my note 2 but that is about 4 years old lol. My wife has it on her note 5. I saw the notification bar burn in when it got the security update the other day. (screen was bright blue)
