My back and forth with android.

So, I've been thinking a lot about my indecisiveness between ios and android. I think I've found out a few things about it and some things that might be subconsciously pushing me back and forth between e two.

So, for a bit of backstory, I originally bought a HTC Inspire back in early 2011 as my first smart phon. Really, it was a turning point because all I had before this was a stupid feature phone.

However, although I liked the phone, it had rather terrible battery life. So much so that I traded it in for a iPhone 4, which had awesome battery life. So I had my iPhone 4 for about 2 years before upgrading to the iPhone 5 in fall of 2012.

I had e iPhone 5 for about 3 months before I got the weird craving to try out android after hearing so much good stuff about how it's improved since my HTC Inspire was around. So I sold my iPhone 5 on eBay and used some of the money to buy a 16gb nexus 4 and get some leftover money to go towards fixing my car (which I spent on other things because I have spending problems)

The thing that inticed me to the nexus 4 was its price. 350 dollars for a unlocked high end phone sounded awesome.

But why would it being cheaper intice me to buy it when I already had a top of the line phone? Wouldn't that aspect be rendered irrelevant?

I think it also had to do with me wanting to try a different ecosyestems and see if the grass was greener somewhere else. It wasn't that I was unhappy with iOS, I just wanted to try something new. Mostly because I am a tech head who likes we things. (Not good for my spending problem, though)

I think also all the weird articles about apple declining kind of put doubt in my head about the future of iOS, but in hindsight that should not have been important to me what pundits say.

Anyway, now comes to my situation with tablets. I currently own a ipad mini, but now I'm thinking of also buying a nexus 7. Why the hell would I do that? Don't I already have a tablet? It's not even a different size so to speak.

again, I think it comes down to price. I asked for the ipad mini for christmas, so it didn't cost me money personally, but I'm just thinking that since nexus tablets will always be cheaper than iPads (at least a high likelihood) that it would be better to start buying those since I need to be very money conscious right now.

But here's e crux of my whole thing: wouldn't spending 250 bucks on another tablet NOT be money conscious? I'm talking about buying this thig to save me money upfront, but I'm spending money to get it when I already have the more expensive thing.

I also feel like I'm taking a gamble buying the nexus 7 because I do t know how I'm personally going to like how the apps are on it.

I'm worried I'm going to get a lesser experience than my ipad mini.

And testing out the nexus 7 in a store is hard because they never have it hooked to the Internet and I can't download and test apps.

But I guess the worse thing that happens is I don't buy another android tablet in the future and I just stick with ipad.

I know this is a long read, and thanks if you read it this far. But do you guys have any thoughts? Do you think buying a nexus 7 as well would be a mistake?

I know this is a android forum and opinions might be skewed, but I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Something you always need to be mindful of is devices of any type can get to be spendy. These days, it is always a good idea to bear in mind what you should and should not spend your money ton. I would say, for right now at least, hold on to the iPad. It will ease the nostalgia of Apple, and you aren't spending any money. Rumor has it The Nexus line is due to be overhauled a little in the very near future, like the next week or two, so I heard. In this case, waiting probably isn't such a bad idea. Even if it isn't, the Nexus line has been out for about a year, and within the next 9 months or so, the new (Nexi???) will be released.

That is just my 2 cents.

Yeah, you make a good point.

I also really hope that google latest play service efforts really help tablet app optimization on android. So if I do decide to get e next nexus 7, I can have lots of good tablet apps.

Bear in mind, if you look at Play on your phone, Play automatically filters apps for you. It won't show tablet only apps if you are on a phone and vice versa.

So the only way to tell what's a tablet optimized app is to view the playstore on a tablet?

On a pc it will tell you if App X is compatible with all some or none of your devices.

But unless I own a tablet already, the plays tore on PC won't even say what's optimized for tablets?

Yes it would. There's a new crop of android tablets coming starting late summer that will blow the current ones away. It's only 3 more months, I would wait.
