So I'm really wanting to get my one rooted mostly for the free hotspot. Getting the bootloader unlocked was easy enough but there are just too many methods and most aren't for the 4.4.2 update. I would appreciate if someone could point me to the easiest (dumbed down method). I'm fairly tech savy but this stuff makes my head hurt.

The next step would be to flash a recovery. You can then root.

I'm going to assume you are familiar with adb commands. Let me know if you need a folder with adb and fastboot stuff because I got one.

1.Download TWRP. Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236620. Rename file "TWRP.img"

2. Drag the TWRP img to where ever you have adb and fastboot.

3. Use cmd to type "adb reboot bootloader"

4. Once in bootloader, wait for "fastboot" text to turn into "fastboot usb"

5.type "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img"

6. reboot phone

You just successfully flashed a recovery.

Come back after this to tell me you finished so we can proceed with root :')

Yes I'm familiar with adb and was able to get the command prompt window up on my computer but it didn't seem to be connecting with my phone. The phone wouldn't respond to any of the commands I input. I'll attempt to follow your directions and see if i can get any further. Thanks for all the info.

I'm going to delete all the files I have on my computer now and go with what you give me. In regards to adb and such.

After you unlock the bootloader, you have to turn USB Debugging on again.

Did that. Could you send me the file with adb and the fast boot stuff.

If you're referring to the HTC drivers I'm pretty sure I did.

Do you have HTC Sync installed? You should uninstall it if you do. Also, I remember something about a confirmation coming up on the One in order for adb to work.

I do have sync installed. I'll uninstall and try again
