My disappointing call to Sprint.... RESOLVED :)

Unfortunately, I have had more than 3 refurbs get replaced by Sprint and not once have they allowed me the option of another phone despite one rep telling me it could be done.. My current Epic replacement is working for the most part with a few exceptions, so that is good. If they would have allowed, I would have strongly considered a different model but the one time a rep offered, I was told she was mistaken and the call went downhill from there. I am glad to hear others are getting their problems resolved.

Ask your local repair tech, according to the customer service rep I spoke with on the phone it automatically pops in the system for the repair tech "options" like I got once you hit 3 bad refurbs. Its not something they advertise and you will have to ask for.

:: Update/Request ::

I would really like to continue seeing this thread kept alive when possible. I believe there has been some good tips and information provided in this thread for those who have to go down this road of multiple defective devices and when and how you can obtain a replacement or optional change of devices.

So if you have something to add, please do.. I think many can gain some sort of edge after reading this thread when they have to make that call to Sprint or their local repair shop/reps.

To give hope to those that have to have their Epic replaced, I had mine replaced some months ago with a refurb and it's been great. So they're not all bad :)

So you took your device into your local Sprint store already? Did they authorize replacement with no signs of water damage? If so that's awesome!

Actually I think the Epic is really a well sealed device, the only spot I have heard about water really getting into the device besides the external speaker is around the camera . So if you were quick and got it dried off fast you could save it before the water indicators get wet. If you have a small phillips screw driver you can remove the 6 or 7 screws on the back under your battery cover and pop the case open to see if there is water damage.

The battery as a small white strip on it which is a water indicator, mine was partial pink which indicates signs of water but that's been like that for some time... Probably happened from me cleaning the device it may have gotten a few drops of water/alcohol on the strip.

SO, I get my new Epic today, it's actually on my front porch now but I am at work. Wish me luck!! I hope everything works!!!

I was given the choice of Nexus S 4g, EVO Shift, Intercept, Transformer or another Epic 4g. Well after talking with some of you and my close friends I have decided to go with the Nexus S 4g :) .

They offered the INTERCEPT as a replacement for the Epic??? What were they thinking, that because it has a keyboard, it's in the same class? I don't like talking bad about any device in particular, but the Intercept is the ONLY phone I've ever had that I wanted out as soon as possible. I made it 5 months before using my other lines upgrade to get the Epic.

Well after many phone calls and trips back and forth to my local Sprint store, I finally got a rep or supervisor on the phone today that worked with me. I come to find out from this supervisor (of course this is something they don't like to advertise) but once you hit your 3rd defective refurb the system automatically kicks in "options" for you as a suitable replacement. Plus this is all being done for FREE with no charges to me and its also not affecting/resetting my upgrade period...

I looked at the long term of it all and the Nexus will still continue to receive updates and it will also probably see ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) and its a developers device which is perfect for me ;) The Epic 4g while its still my baby its time is running out and once official GB comes out we know its the end of the road. Officially to its on the EOL (End of Life) list by Sprint in October.

So I will still be here to help out, I'm not abandoning my friends and members that I have enjoyed helping so much ! I still have my wife's Epic 4g which is rooted, to play with now and then so I will still be "in the loop".

Otherwise, I will see some of you in the Nexus S 4g section starting next Monday when the new shipment of Nexus's come in at my local Sprint store :)

Paul.

Glad you got things sorted but what a PITA that whole palava that was. My wife has the Nexus S 4g and loves it :)

Yes, I had mine replaced several months ago (maybe 5 months ago now) and it's still working just fine.

Yep they go by value of the device... Just wait your on the Nexus and get one of these deals I think you get even less because of the $99- 2 yr contract deal with Sprint now... You wouldn't even qualify for the Epic because its selling at $150.

Anyways I'm very happy to this point with the NS4G. Working on learning the AOSP ROM so I can start porting my Epic themes over to the NS4G :)

No offense, but I'm glad I'm just NOW reading this thread rather than a week ago. I had to enact my TEP plan to replace my Epic due to some reasons I won't mention:confused:. Anyway, I started doing research online to make sure that things would go smoothly with Asurion. I really was worried about getting a refurb, and online research didn't really help my uneasiness. One thing I'll say is that after filing my claim under TEP, my phone was literally on my doorstep delivered the next day, which was awesome. My phone came shipped as a refurb, but after a little bit of time testing features I immediately began the root and ROM process since it was already stock. I am happy with it thus far and have not had any issues whatsoever. I was worried about getting a bad refurb, but I guess I'm one of the lucky ones to not have to deal with multiple back-and-forths with the Epic. So for those of you that did, I hope you got all your issues resolved,

Paul, glad you got things worked out and thanks for all your help here in the Epic forums!

Thats awesome... I guess I just have the worst luck... I mean reallly 3 bad refurbs in a row?!!? Who could blame me for wanting out...
