That's right...I dropped it.

Picked up some buddies from the airport, it's their first time in Vegas. As the afternoon drinking ensues one of my friends makes a comment about how my case (red) looks like it could be slightly pink. I ignored this trash as I thought it looked super sexy. A few hours and a lot more beers later he makes the comment again...so I'm like F it...I have 25 bucks on my best buy gift card and I've had this case since launch day I'll just go buy another one tomorrow. I stripped it off and threw it on the ground...now the phone is even sexier.

A few more hours later I'm standing in a crowded bar and it happens...the same friend inadvertently knocks the phone out of my hand and it lands HARD. I mean the phone exploded into 3 pieces hard (battery, cover, and phone). I pretty much did a swan dive to recover it all before it got stepped on/kicked into a puddle (it was right next to a beer pong table)

The point of this post that not a lot of people have been able to test (because no one wants to) is that this phone is durable. I can't say it landed at a good angle as it was in 3 pieces...but it does not have even the slightest mark on it ANYWHERE. Just thought I would share that sequence of events also...as I found it ironic the second my case came off I happened to drop the S.O.B

Wow...I'm sure glad it survived. Mine phone dropped off the bed once (bouncing toddler...) onto a carpeted floor and I almost went into cardiac arrest...although the phone itself didn't seem to notice or care.

Good thing that the phone was ok or the friend worried about the slightly pink case might be nursing a slightly black eye, eh?

Well I dropped my on concrete stuffed and scratched the top piece by the power switch. Landed on screen. But that survived

dropped my naked droid X from a table at Dunkin Donuts, landed with a big thud on the hard wooden floor.

picked it up, no scratches (yesss!). Then i called and activated insurance on my 2-week old droid x. reality check, i realized i had an electronic device worth more than half a thousand dollars retail, and for sure gonna get put through some abuse no matter how careful you are with it.

A co worker Had a DX last week , but not anymore ,he wasnt so lucky. he told me this monday, last weekend he was letting his brother check out his DX, they stopped at a gas station. My friend was pumping gas and his brother playing with his DX. When the drove off my friend heard a noise and said "what was that noise and a second later said where is my phone "??His brother said he slid it to him across the top of car while he was pumping gas. "Thats what that noise was ".The phone was on top of car when they drove off. They did turn around never found ALL of the phone just pieces and not alot of that .He fiqured it got runned over before they got back and found what was left of it. To make matters worse , vzw now says he didnt have insurance on the phone which he said he had ask for when he ordered the phone on launch day (july15th).His brother has no way to pay anything on that phone either. His latitude location on Maps shows the spot of last GPS transmission still on my phone as well .He did have a zagg screen protector on but even it didnt help in that case and a light weight type case.

OUCH! I hope he had some sort of a back up phone...or maybe look at craigslist or ebay for a replacement. I am deeply sorry for the loss.

Cost of insurance?

Ok, I just came over from droidforums.net and someone dropped theirs and the screen shattered. I dropped mine today on the top corner on a tile floor at Staples and I cringed. I'm getting nervous.

I never bought insurance on a phone before but now it seems that the stars are lining up against me. I've always figured I'd just buy another phone on ebay but at this point, I don't think that is the best option right now for the X. What is the cost from Verizon? Are there other, better options? Do I need to go to a VZW store or can I do this over the phone? How long do I have to activate it? I got mine on launch day.

Thanks.

When I saw my phone almost explode into three pieces part of me died inside. Thankfully I had been binge drinking all day to where my emotions had been numbed. I'm still astonished that NOTHING is on the phone. I thought it would at least have a scratch where it landed on but apparently my phone is invincible.

He had an old alltel phone that they had to help him get it working he got an error trying to do it by himself, his knows how to do that just that old alltel phone wasnt cooperating.Again he thought had insurance the 6.99 extended warr. one.I always double check my account even got emails set up to verify it when changes are made to it.

He has emailed vzw , but when talking on phone they say not much they can do now .So check your accounts is my advice just as a precaution .Everybody makes mistakes

Dropped mine today- I have the ZAGG IS and VZW case.

3foot-ish drop from pants pocket to pavement. My DX stood up, slapped me, called me a ***** and got back in my pocket. But at least its completely scratchless.

Agree. I even doubled check before we left the VZ corporate store when we ordered our droids about adding the $7.99 insurance on my line. It is there. I never do anything stupid to my phone but you really never know what can happen today or tomorrow...

Alershka,

I bought insurance for my droid x thru VZW, you have a 30 day window period to purchase the insurance from date of activation, after that you're outta luck

Costs 7.99/month with a 90? Deductable fee should ur droid x be unrepairable. Im not sure abt the deductable but i know its less than $ 100

I've never bought insurance on my phones before and i was a bberry user for 3 yrs. But i've also never had a phone so kick *** and expensive before, seemed like the.right thing to do with this bad boy

The problem with the insurance is that the price is half of what a new phone costs and you get an annual upgrade. Not only that but by not having that you can purchase a refurbished certified phone from Verizon once a year. I found this out the hard way.

I wanted to wait till after Christmas to upgrade my phone to give all the players a chance to put a product out, but on the other hand my Storm 1 had been killing me lately. So I looked at their selection of these phones, the Storm 2 was one of them, thinking it might be a good way to pass the time I found out there are 3 restrictions one of them being not having the insurance on my current phone. So I can pay Assurian $100 for a storm 1 but I can't pay Verizon anything without a new contract for a Storm 2 and not being raped in the process.

With the annual upgrade its only like another $100 to get a top of the line phone assuming your phone lasts 12 months without an accidental break/loss.

Purchase a referbished phone via Verizon. If they have one that is. They do not always have every brand and model in stock. I believe right now a Droid is around $289.00
However, if you have a one year contract with verizon:

$95.88 for 12 months of Ins through Verizon, plus $90.00 for a a replacement phone. Still less expensive then getting a refurbished from Verizon.

Now, if you are talking a two-year contract...
$191.76 for insurance plust $90 for a replacement. That pretty much equals out to a refurb directly from Verizon.

After reading these postings, another good insurance is new friends or less alcohol. :-)

Got the body glove case when I purchased the phone. Have dropped it twice and the case separated and scratched the corners. I plan to get an Otter Box when they are available.

In my experience phones are a lot more durable then people think they are. I once got out of the car on a hill in a hurry and the phone that was on my lap went skidding down the hill aways and it had some light scratches on it.
I also think the IS protector on the phone helps out (keeps the screen intact) in a heavy shock drop.
I guess what I am trying to say is I really think that one of the test that they do is a drop test.
I have a Canon 50D D-SLR, and if i dropped that like I have dropped a phone it would be in a lot of pieces.

when you get insurance do you get a new phone as a replacement or a refurb?
