My ear/face keep hitting the hold/mute buttons while using the phone (As a phone), how do I stop this?

It happened to me on my note 5, and is happening again with my S7 edge, I'm starting to get angry 😡

u cnt stop it.i having same problem w/ s6, now i had lg k7 didn't hav this problem nor on galaxy core prime.cheaper phones have promexity sensor option.ughhh

Hi, this is definitely an annoying problem since our face starts touching the screen to 'configure stuff' once we move the phone slightly away and thereby the sensor assumes that we are no longer holding the phone near our ears. (proximity sensor is not triggered).
SOLUTION:

The best solution is to install an app that would lock the screen whenever there is an active call and provide us an option to unlock the same using several techniques as per our need.
the apps is : Call Screen Lock by Duckbone Apps
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tails?id=com.duckbonecallguard&token=E-DQouOe

Its got tons of configuration options for the type of unlock symbol and gesture that we can set.

Try it and let me know if its successful!

:-)

The proximity sensor was not turning off the screen on my 5X, which was VERY annoying.

I cleared the system cache, and it resolved my issue.

Someone forwarded the Aida64 app to me, which provides a ton of phone sensor data readouts, including the proximity sensor. This might help some of you determine whether your issue is hardware or software. Look for the proximity sensor in the list. On my 5X, the output was either "0 CM" or "5 CM" when I waved my hand in front of the proximity sensor. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...etails?id=com.finalwire.aida64&token=RG_gM1Gj

Re: My ear/face keep hitting the hold/mute buttons while using the phone (As a phone)

I find this to be a huge problem, but haven't seen any other complaints about this... when using the phone (As a phone), I frequently find that my ear or the side of my face that's touching the screen is causing the mute or hold (or others) buttons to be pressed which needless to say causes big problems when it's being done unintentionally.

Anybody else have this problem/issue and know anything that can be done about it? Yes, I can hit the home screen after dialing, but it's still a problem because my ear/face is potentially hitting other Apps, or music to play or something else instead... plus I still want the ability to actually pause, intentionally or mute...

Wow!! And i thougbt ii was the only one this had ever happened too..

Atleast 90% of my phone conversations that I have with people are always put on hold.

Even when using the loudspeaker option it manages to place calls on hold still.

No one can explain or answer how to fix it..

This is a great idea. I have the same problem too. and I even end calls with my chin. which we could customize where buttons should be.:p

Re: My ear/face keep hitting the hold/mute buttons while using the phone (As a phone)

I installed the pixel phone apk. The placement of the buttons are different.

I used to face lot of issues with calls before, but none now.

Stunning that this has still not been addressed.
Disappointing the only suggestions are to somehow bow down to the technology and change the way you handle the phone. Technology to serve us, not command us.
Amazing more people don't bring this up, or worse, insist there's no problem.

If anyone finds a fix, PLEASE take the time to post.

Help! I've tried Googling the answer, but my Alcatel still does crazy stuff while I'm on a call! I went to Settings, but there's no My Device TO turn on Smart Screen! Then, I searched for my Phone's App to adjust Call Settings, but I have NO phone app! I hate taking phone calls as all sorts of buttons activate & cause chaos! Anyone have any insight?!🤔😥

Welcome to Android Central! You should probably create a new thread with your question, since this old thread is in the Nexus 6 forum, and your issue seems to be different.

That being said, it would be helpful to describe in more detail the crazy stuff the phone is doing.

OMG
When I describe exactly what you just said the people I talk to think I'm nuts this happens to me all the time I hate it I feel like I got fat cheeks and then I can't get back to turn the screen on or unmute it assuming I didn't actually drop the call

I have exactly same problem. I would suggest you to download CallScreenLock v3.6.apk by Duckbone App or Smart-Call-Screen-Lock-v2.0.apk. (Smart-Call-Screen-Lock-v2.0.apk will let you choose lock button position). This apps are made for older Android versions so it might not work properly on your phone. It did not worked for me on Android 11, but after long search I found that if I use screen lock app together with Simple Dialer: Phone Calls app by SimpleMobileTools from Play Store it works perfectly. If it doesn't try looking for other compatible phone dialer app.l
