The simple fact that home screen layouts (apps and widget placement) and settings will finally be transferable between phones. To someone that switches devices several times a year this is huge.

That was the one thing I missed from my iPhone days. Very exite!

Serious? So if I transfer from an old phone to a new one... I can have everything the same as before... without spending hours getting it all "just right" ... again?

Or if you get another phone off the same type (like you destroy your old phone and get a replacement) you can just load a backup of your old phone that Google stored. Put's everything back where it was, folders, widgets, background, everything

i know ios has had this since always but.... i'm very happy to see it finally come to Android. I'm sure it'll only work when going from a 5.0 or higher phone to another but that's ok by me

Even Windows Phone has this. Nice to see it coming to Android. Is it safe to assume that even a 3rd party launcher and layout would be copied as well or only the built in launcher with icon layouts?

My guess is only stock. Unfortunately, Android is too customizable to make these things work as intended.

Of course, using Nova launcher, folks have been doing this for a long time. But, agreed - nice to have it available for everyone.

So app data is not backed up? SMS and call data?
I feel lazy, who can spoon feed me a link to where it's discussed what gets backed up?

Is it transferred directly from one phone to the other, or do you back up all the settings then load onto the new phone? Or can you do it either way?

It works setting up an Android 5 phone from a 4.4 phone. Both phones need to be using Google Now Launcher though.
