My Galaxy S9 wont turn off comeplety

[Android Central Question]

When I press the power button expecting my phone to turn off snd the screen to go black it does that for a second then another screen pops up displaying the time in a brick fashion and the icons for notifications I have I do not want this on for it drains my battery I've checked other threads but have found nothing useful

Even to me as a non-user of Samsungs, that sounds like AOD, which I imagine could be switched off via Settings, Lock Screen. But Samsung users will quickly tell me if I'm wrong.

When you say "turn off" you mean completely OFF ..?
Normally you have to press/hold the power button for few seconds .. then you have the options..:
POWER OFF - RESTART .. !!

You are correct. Sounds like AOD.

Settings>lock screen and security >always on display >toggle off
