My Gear s flashing on and off

Hello. I think i found the 'bug'

After a couple of hours of testing the Gear S i discovered that the looping issue is caused by the way the watch is handling notifications. Everythings fine when the Gear S is constantly connected with bluetooth and mobile network/wifi. The trouble starts when the connection changes from bluetooth to mobile network/wifi. When the gear is set to 'automatic on/off it will take a while to connect, about a minute with my gear. If a notification reach your cell phone during the time a new connection is set up on the Gear, there will be no connection. The flashing/looping of the screen starts when a bluetooth connection is re-established and the 'hanging' notification(s) are pushed to the Gear.

Solutions:

- disable notifications
- delete the notifications from your cell phone when connected with bluetooth, after that the looping stops immediatly
- connect to a network before you're out of bluetooth reach

Important note: this works on my Gear, no problems anymore since. Hope this works for you too, let me know!

sorry for my poor english...

This seems to work for me after resetting my Gear S twice already for this issue. So far, so good.

Found the solution, I think... just unins tall Gear Manager and reboot your watch. That seems to stabilize the looping. I just got a replacement unit and it still happens with my Note 5 connected. It usually triggers when my watch disconnects from bluetooth.

Wondering since gear manager just updated again for me today if it stopped the screen flashing problems for anyone?

It's been over a week and still no more flashing since I uninstalled and reinstalled Gear Manager.

Thanks to the advice i received here i fixed the problem. This has happened to me several times and the first time I did factory reset it worked, but then next time did not. I turned off notifications on cell phone and factory reset my watch again. Cross my fingers now. It is kind of a bummer that you cant use your watch to its potential, come on samsung fix your bugs.

I think it happens when you disconnect your phone from the watch and a notification comes in at the same time. I am holding off on buying the S2 until I see if Samsung fixes this bug on the Gear S.

Hi,

Thanks for finding the problem. After the reboot, does your solution mean that notifications must always be off for the watch to not go into that endless loop?

This is completely true! Thanks a lot my friend! Just clear notifications on both devices and it magical works!

Mine has done the same thing since I updated it in November 2015 .... I believe it was in that update that something screwed up ... I do not live near a Samsun service centre so am SOL at the moment ... has anyone taken theirs into a Samsung Service Centre and had it resolved??

OMG! Thank you thank you HelterSkelter!! Your advice was perfect! I've been dealing with this issue for months! AND this is my 4th Gear S!! Damn Samsung couldn't figure out what the issue was, they just kept sending me new devices lol and of course, the same issue would always occur. As soon as I turned off notifications, it stopped INSTANTLY!!!! You're the Man :D WOOT!!

I just had this happen for the first time tonight in over a year of owning this watch.

I finally had to do a search for how to reset the watch because I could not get into the settings long enough to press reset before it would go back to the home screen.

I solved it by reseting the watch by:

Power off the watch
Turn on the watch and hold the power button till you see the Samsung Rebooting message.
Press the power button a few times to get to the recovery option. When that is highlighted, long press the power button until it says it is initializing the reset.

Since I had the watches settings backed up on my phone, I was prompted to restore as soon as the recovery was complete. I did lose the S Health info and text messages but everything was still there.
