My goodness. So many bugs!

I got the Sprint Hero on Saturday and have been playing around with it for a few days now. It is so buggy! It isn't too laggy per say, and it is pretty responsive. But there are just too many annoying little bugs here and there.

For example, it just feels like the virtual keyboard is like not part of the phone or something. The keyboard doesnt come up quickly when I click a textbox and as a matter of fact, there was a time when the keyboard stayed on the screen when I exited onto the home screen (yes, the keyboardwas on the home screen). It would do this everytime I press home from an app using the keyboard. Restarting the phone fixed the issue.

Also, lately, I've been noticing an issue with the notifications bar on the top. It won't drag down! I spent the entire morning trying to drag that thing down that my thumb started to hurt. Even when I'm on the home screen and press menu > notifications, nothing comes up. As if the notifications bar feature is non-existant. Restarting the phone fixed this issue as well.

Also, the alarm clock... makes no noise. I set an alarm this morning at a certain time, and the screen shows the alarm going off (gives option to snooze or dismiss) but no sound! I did some tests to make sure the sound settings and everything were correct - they were. Sound was on, everything ELSE was making noise, except the alarm clock. Gr! Luckily I had an alarm set on another clock to wake me up. I am still trying to figure this issue out.

There are several other bugs here and there, but those were the big ones. Very annoying!

Nevermind about the alarm clock, I fixed it. For those having the same problem:

Go to Clock > alarm clock > select alarm (or create one) > alarm sounds > rock volume up

Nice tip. I was worried because when I tested my alarm it was so quiet so I set a backup JIC.

I noticed another bug that I emailed HTC to notify them about. The time widget on my home screen (displays time, location, current weather) is displaying the wrong time. I know why its happening and its because I'm in Ontario, NY. The phone thinks I'm in Ontario Canada.

The time in my notification bar is accurate, only the HTC widget is showing incorrect time.

Another thing I noticed is it took about 8 hours after buying/setting up my phone before I could browse the web. I kept getting an error (I don't recall the error). I saw a thread on another forum where many other people also experienced this problem.

Also I experienced a 24 hour period where I could send text messages and emails, could make and receive calls but could not receive any text messages. I didn't know I was having a problem until a buddy called me and asked why I never responded to his texts. After he told me he text me a few times and i never got it i called a few other friends to see if they had text me also and it turns out that I missed at least 15 text messages that are nowhere to be found This problem right here scares the crap outta me.

The time in the status bar is your network time, while the HTC widget time is based on current location. It looks to me that the BUG in the HTC widget is actually a bug in the way the Hero determines current location. After taking a trip yesterday that put me in another TZ, my Yellow Pages app, HTC clock, and Where all did not reset when I returned home. Reset fixed it. Probably could have set new current loc in Google Maps to fix it as well, but didn't think of that until it was too late

Had the same issue with texts the first day I had mine, after a call to Sprint, passed off to HTC, some troubleshooting of my own, then back to Sprint they figured out it was an error on their end. They claim it's because I ported over from a Blackberry. In any case they finally fixed it.

wow .... must be a problem with porting from Blackberry and Pre then because i came from a Pre .....

I had the same problem of not receiving texts. A hard reset fixed my problem

Everyone needs to remember that with all smartphones now you need to reboot regularly. Win Mobile, BB, Pre and Android. Especially when you install new software or utilities. You won't find a smartphone that doesn't need to be reset. The nice thing about the Hero is that it has the fastest reboot time of any smartphone by far:
BB-8 minutes, Pre-3 to 4 minutes, Wind Mobile-2 to 3 and Android about 1 minute. If you don't like to reboot every once in a while a feature phone might be a better choice for some or a regular flip phone.

I agree but at the same time disagree. Anytime you have a problem with a smart phone, your first step without question, should be to do a battery pull.

With that said, i had the Palm Pre for 3+ months and never did a battery pull (was side loading aps/homebrew and everything) and MAYBE 2 restarts of the phone. Had a BB curve and did maybe 4 battery pulls in 12 months with several restarts thrown in. My Hero, in 7 days, i've done 4 battery pulls and more restarts than i can count on my fingers and toes.

So while i agree a battery pull is neccessary every now and then, in comparison my Hero has required more than my Black Berry, webOS, WinMo phones.
