Just launch google wallet and was instructed to update the app, but now it saids google wallet is not available for my carrier. I'm using a rooted GSM version on Tmobile. Does anyone know what is going on, since I have a lot of cash transfer to google debit account. Anyone out there knows what's going on, I know the issues with rooted devices but should be my own risk if I want to install the app. This might make me get rude of my GN. Come on Google.

due to a recent update google wallet no longer works on rooted devices. That is why it doesnt work for you its a security issue

The carrier issue is separate from the rooting I think since I have an unlocked Nexus on T-Mobile that had the same issue. Not sure why it matters which carrier you are on though. But Droid Life has the workaround for installing/updating it on your device.

For the root issue people are just getting a warning message saying it's potentially insecure ( and probably Google won't help if money gets taken from your Google Wallet).

Google Wallet works for me on T-Mobile even after the update through the market. I'm not rooted though.

I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus purchased before they were available directly from Google and running on ATT. I flashed it to a yakju build and it gets all of the ICS updates. I called Google Wallet support and what I learned was that with the latest Google Wallet update, the app will now only work on GSM phones purchased from Google. I expect that if I flash the takju build with Google Wallet included, I might be good to go, but I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble. Anyway, it is kind of a passive-agressive way for Google to screw their early adopters

Just root it, flash any custom ROM and you'll be able to work it just fine. Just remember to clear Google Wallet data (from within the app's settings) before trying to activate it again on a new ROM:)

I realize you'd no longer be on stock but most custom ROMs for the GNex look and feel stock and are often updated faster anyway.

So, am I to understand that Google Wallet is working for custom ROMs on rooted devices but not on devices running the stock ROM with anything other than the takju build? That seems odd. Can anyone else confirm this? Is this true for the latest version of Google Wallet?

Well I've done it on AOKP (many builds), CM9 nightlies, and MIUI. I even got it to work on the Verizon Nexus way back on 4.0.2 but I don't think you can do that anymore (rooted in all circumstances).
