My HTC Evo 4G is stuck on a reboot infinite loop

This is turning into quite an interesting predicament.

When you sent your token in to get your unlock code, did you include the data inside the <<<>>> as well?

0 kb? Any person knows that's a corrupted file. Redownload and/or redo everything. Hell, even open the Unlock_code.bin with Notepad and see what's inside. You probably won't see anything though.

My battery died last night. I plugged the phone in and turned it on. When it turned on,it went into a loop so I turned it back off and let it charge overnight. Now this morning it is still stuck in a loop. I took out the battery, put it back in, held volume down the power. Chose restore and now it's stuck on the screen with the green circle and arrow. I've taken the battery back out, reinserted it and held volume down and power. It automatically goes back to the green arrow screen. When I push arrow up and power I get E:can't open /cache/recovery/command. Please help!

You should still be able to open the recovery that way, it should still open, but I think it shows that failed message because it is looking for a custom recovery. From there, clear cache and reboot.

Also, if you haven't tried it yet, boot into Safe Mode. Turn on your phone. When you see the HTC logo, just hold down Volume Down until your phone vibrates twice, one short, one long. If your phone successfully boots, then you have installed a malicious app and need to uninstall it in order to use your phone normally again.

Hi, I'm having a difficult problem. My evo 4g battery went dead and upon switching with my secondary battery it was in hb oot. My phone is stock never been rooted, has s-on, and hboot is 2.18.0001. Anyway regardless of what I do that is the only screen that stays on. Just hit power or trying the vol or power buttons do not work at all. Putting a pc36img file didn't work either. It doesn't matter if I hold volume down and power or quickly hit power, just use power, etc. all attempts lead to the hboot screen with dead buttons. I've tried 3 batteries, sd card in or out. Nothing gets it out of hboot except pulling the battery. volume and power buttons work great normally just in hboot. Had this problem once before but holding vol down and briefly touching power finally got my buttons working to reset but I have tried this for a day now along with everything else and it just doesn't cause the keys to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

While in the bootloader can you get it into fastboot mode ? if you can and the phone connected to your pc and you see fastboot usb you will be able to use a RUU and maybe that will do the trick

Look here the second one down should work. It's a exe file and runs in windows

RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.67.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.12.19_NV_2.33_release_234563_signed.exe

I have an HTC EVO DESIGN 4G with the same basic problems as everyone else. It is a LOCKED sprint phone. This morning it was ON, and in my home screen charging. When I pressed my power button to turn on the screen and look at my phone it came up with an error message. I was VERY tired and chose to ignore it. I don't even know what it said. I just remember seeing the word DATA. Next thing I know, the phone is in a factory reset screen or else some kind of update loading halfway. I pulled out my battery and SD card in fear that I'd lose everything. Backed it up on my computer. Put it back into my phone and tried to start it up. It when through all the startup screens which are: HTC, HTC-quietly brilliant, Sprint screen, then it comes up and says 4G in big yellow letters. It isn't on a loop, but it is stuck on that 4G screen.

I got to the HBOOT screen and it says:

*** LOCKED ***
KINGDOM PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.30.0000
RADIO-1.11.00.0418_2
eMMC-boot
Mar 26 2012, 16:07:45

I also was able to get into the recovery menu with the Volume + Up thing. I cleared cache several times and rebooted several times. Nothing changed. I've also tried the factory reset from both the HBOOT menu, and the Recovery menu.

Please, how can I fix my phone? D I need to download an RUU thing? What is that and how does it work? Can you help me find the right one?

So I'm having the same problem with the loop, only I've tried selecting the recovery and factory reset options and when I try either one, it sends me back to the HTC screen and continues the loop.
Locked
Shooter xc ship 8-on rl
HBOOT - 1. 58. 0000
eMMC - boot
I was on the phone, then the touch screen stopped responding so I tried to take out the battery, and that's when it started.

!!! WAIT!!! DON'T RESET YET!!!
.... Here's how I do it:

1) First, stop the looping by pulling the battery, and then reinserting it, WITHOUT powering it back on.
2) Make sure the phone has enough charge to run without being plugged in and then UNPLUG the phone. I've done this after charging for maybe 20 minutes.
3) Boot into the hboot menu (hold VOLUME DOWN then momentarily press POWER)
4) Use the volume buttons to highlight RECOVERY and hit the power button.

The phone vibrates, displays the white screen with HTC Evo 4g, then displays a black screen with a large green sync icon over a hard disk. (There's an image here: http://geekfor.me/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/radio_4.1.png)

After about a minute, the icon switches to a red error symbol (triangle with exclamation point) over a cellphone. (There's an image here: http://htcevohacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/htc-evo-recovery-mode-4.jpg)

5) At this point, pull the battery, reinsert it, and power it on normally (WITHOUT holding the volume button). The phone boots normally, and all the apps and data are there, just as they were before the loop started.

THUGDRUMMER, YOU ARE MY HERO. I salvaged my Evo using your process above and saved my 300 contacts. THANK YOU FOR POSTING.

I have an HTC EVO 4G. I was experiencing the same issues as most on the thread yesterday and found this:

Thank you THUGDRUMMER!

So that worked and my phone got out of the boot loop that it was stuck in and was fine all day. This morning, it was not connecting to 3G or wireless so I did a RESTART - and it got stuck in the boot loop again and I had to do THUGDRUMMER's procedure again to get it unstuck. It worked....but now I'm afraid to ever shut my phone off or restart it. Any suggestions as to what is wrong with it or how to fix it? It's a fairly new phone as I just had it replaced at a Sprint store because my old HTC EVO 4G's power button broke. And I only have 2 apps downloaded onto it - same ones that I had loaded onto my old phone.

Thank you!

Hi I'm having this same problem (HTC EVO 4G) and I'm at the screen with the green arrows but when I press volume up and the power button, it keeps saying "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" but there's nothing else I can do, please help, thank you
oh and I've tried safe mode and there's no malicious apps

If your phone can boot up into Safe Mode and load the OS, it's a malicious app or something else. If your phone won't boot at all, there's something else. The recovery is supposed to open up the stock recovery, it is looking for a custom one.

My mom had this issue with her evo 4g. There is no way you can restore your phone from stock recovery that way. You have to do a factory reset through your settings, as the recovery does not have an option for it (blame htc), the os has to trigger it.

That menu is called a bootloader and HTC is the only manufacturer that allows direct access to it. My suggestion to you would be to download the latest ruu file for the evo 4g, it requires plugging your phone into your pc, but is fairly simple to follow.

However once the phone reaches a certain point in its lifespan, it's boot time really slows down. Before my mom sold hers on ebay, it took upwards to 6 minutes to fully boot.

So I guess there's no malicious apps because it doesn't react when I try the safemode and the play store's been missing from my phone for some months now so I haven't downloaded anything.
What I get after volume down+power is the menu with recovery as an option but before I can do anything it says something along the lines of "no image!"
if you need me to elaborate on that I will, but continuing, after I choose "recovery" it goes to the bright white screen with "HTC EVO 4g" and then cuts to circular green arrows with one facing the phone below it, when i try volume up+ power on this screen i get a message in yellow displayed below the image saying "E:Can't open / cache/recovery/command" and I can't do anything except pressing the volume up+ power to remove the message, please help I just need to have my phone work normally for me to extract important notes that are one the phone's memory. Thank You
