My IMIE is active with another provider - How do I identify this "provider" and come out of it?

Hello Experts,

Greetings. Request your help on the following - I have recently moved to a new address and my existing carrier (LYca) did not have coverage inside my home. I was trying to few MVNos (Hello Mobile, Red Pocket and finally Gen Mobile). I have a factory unlocked Samsung S9 Galaxy brought from Samsung through Amazon and have been using Lyca for almost last 2 Years. I didnt have any problem while switching to Hello Mobile or then to Red Pocket. However, when I attempted to switch to Gen Mobile - I realize that my IMIE is already activated with another provider. I tried this on multiple carrier's Bring Your Phone web page (Tello, Twigby etc) - all of them give a similar message like the own shown below.

Your phone is compatible! However – your phone is active with another provider. This is a simple fix. Just bring your phone number to Twigby and service with your old provider will automatically be cancelled!

I have already reached out to Hello Mobile who confirms that the IMIE is not active with them. Similarly, Red Pocket also confirms that the same. I attempted porting my number from Lyca to Gen Mobile and the port in is successful. Still it is not allowing me to activate with Gen Mobile.

At this point, I am stuck and am not sure whom I can reach out to get this sorted out. So I am posting in this forum to understand if any of you have come across this situation or if you are aware of a solution. I am particularly trying to identify on who is the carrier who has this IMIE activated in their network or at least the phone number associated with it (so I can attempt a port-in).

Thank you for your time in reading this, and looking forward for a solution. Appreciate your help and support.

Thanks & Regards,

Raajesh N

Welcome to Android Central! But your phone is currently active with some carrier right now, isn't it? Or did you completely cancel your current line and have no cell plan at all right now?

Hi, welcome toAC!

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Yes, Gen Mobile was not able to activate it still in their CDMA, they have shared a GSM Sim and it seem to work now. I am still wondering if the issue will persist if I switch back to another CDMA.

BTW, it still tells me that my IMIE is active with another provider if I try now with either of Tello or Twigby.

Thanks & Regards,

Thanks Diddy for the prompt response.

Yes, at the time of the issue - I had no active line(s). I did port my number from Lyca with Gen Mobile. Gen Mobile now shared a GSM Mobile and that seem to work. I am still wondering if the issue will persist if I switch back to another CDMA. BTW, it still tells me that my IMIE is active with another provider if I try now with either of Tello or Twigby.

What's the exact model number of your S9? Are you certain it supports CDMA? From what I can tell, the non-US version is only GSM, but I might be wrong.

Is there a reason why you need the CDMA towers that Gen Mobile uses? From their website, they can also use AT&T or T-Mobile towers, which are GSM. This might have something to do with the activation difficulties you're having.

These things are carrier issues that they have control over and not much can be done on user end for imei .
