My internet is gone!

I have an LG Optimus V through Virgin Mobile. I was getting internet fine for the first month or so I had the phone and now I don't get any internet at all. On my 3G symbol the arrows either stay grayed out or the up arrow lights up periodically, I guess that indicates its sending out data? I can connect through wi-fi but otherwise I can't get any internet. I've checked every setting. I've turned the phone off, taken out the battery.....hey when all else fails. I just have no idea why it's not getting internet. I have a friend with this exact same phone and when I'm at his house he gets internet with no problem and I still get nothing unless I connect to his wi fi. I've looked at the coverage map and my area has coverage. Like I said, for the first month and a half I got internet just fine. Any ideas? I thought I'd check here first because I really hate calling customer service.

Check you settings - under Wireless and Networks and make sure you did not accidently disable 3g data. I'm not sure exactly where that setting is on your phone so if it's not under Wireless and Networks, look around for it.

Throttling perhaps? Do you stream a lot of music and videos?

When the 3G gets messed up VM sometimes recommends running the Activate app in the app drawer or Settings > About > Activate

This normally takes about 30 seconds to a minute. This ensures the service link is established to VM.

If that doesn't fix your 3G you might have a common issue where the billing cycle doesn't process correctly. Call VM and tell them your 3G stopped working and they would do a "month reset". That should clear the problem.

I tried Activate and that didn't work. A few days after your reply I tried to call them and it wouldn't go through. I would dial the number and it would ring once and hang up on me. Later on that day my 3G started working again out of the blue. Strange. If it happens again though I will keep this in mind and call them. Thanks for your help!
