my mi a1 is asking password to start

actually i use pattern lock to unlock my phone but when rebooted its asking me to enter password.

Usually when one is making a pattern to unlock their phone, the security settings will ask them to also put in a password to ensure that the correct user is indeed making a pattern to unlock their phone. Do you remember initializing a password on your device; perhaps when you first got it?
