My nexus is using INSANE amounts of data..

Ive never gone over 1gb. I simply just dont use that much data. Im on 3g, and verizon is saying ive used 1.5gb this month. It has slowed down though, but I think something was up for the first few days I had the phone.

I used over half a GB in the first day of having the Nexus, but it was downloading apps and updates a lot for a good portion of the day. I do notice that Google Music uses a very large amount of data, I'm wondering if it has a bug in tracking the data used by it. I know that it starts caching the next song or 2 in your play list or whatever, but still seems high.

edit: I'm 3G only.

Why are you streaming your music if you only have 2GB? I don't listen to music a crazy amount of time and I've already used 4.15GB with Google Music since I got my phone last week.

LOL I just checked my data usage for the first time. At the top of the list is Speed Test at 366mb. With my OG Droid I have never went over 250mb in a month. Thank God for unlimited data :)

I take speed tests all the time. I've used 1.7GB in speed tests. :P

Speed tests on 4G use 20MB though.

download a data enabler toggle and disable mobile data when you are not using it.
Dont we already have this feature built into ICS in settings?
Edit: im referring to the data throttle where we can moderate how much data certain apps can use.

Without unlimited data I wouldn't even consider a smart phone. Apps and browsing alone on the first day put me in the 400mb range and now i'm well over 4gb.

I just got the nexus about 5 hours ago. In that time i used google music to stream 4 songs, and watched one 6 minute youtube video. So far the data usage is telling me that gmusic has used 220 mb of data, and the one video i watched used 40mb of data. I feel like there is something wrong here because I will easily be over 2gb by tomorrow at this rate. I used netflix/gmusic/youtube on my HTC incredible for hours a day before this and never went over my monthly 2gb. Is anyone else having this issue or is something wrong with my phone?

If you allowed it to restore your Apps from the market, that would be the likely culprit. I saw a chunk of data chewed up when I restored, but appear to have settled down now.

If you have Wi-Fi at home connect to that instead. It will use your battery less and it will also save you on your data usage as it doesn't count toward your Verizon data used. I'm sure to know this, but someone else may read this thread and learn something new.

or just turn off 4g by changin the network mode form CDMA/LTE to CDMA.

This will cut down on your usage significantly.

I am so glad for unlimited data. I used almost 4gb since launch day and on the 22nd, billing cycle end, I had used 6gb total for the month. I love 4G and my new appendage.:)

Just don't unlock/root/rom it with th3ory....it will chew double : )

So basically you're saying that I can watch like 15 youtube videos and listen to a couple hours of gmusic per month before I'm paying per mb? LOL I kinda wish they wouldve told me that my data usage would increase by a factor of 50 before I got this phone. Looks like I'll be returning it... Even with 4gb I'd have to cut down my usage a completely ridiculous amount to stay under.

it is like going from a honda to a ferrarri and expecting the gas mileage to stay the same. You aren't going to be able to stream anything like that and stay under 2 gb's unless you use wifi, 3g or not.

Worth pointing out that Google Music will download the art for your music collection when you first set it up in the background. When I looked at my data usage I did a WTF since I opened Google Music and told it my account but never played any music with it and it still used a significant amount of data.

im at 464mb on my first full day...ive only listened to a few songs on google music. i only have 4gb on my plan. i havent done anything crazy on this thing yet.

I've noticed a huge chunk of data reported too. Speed test being run 3 timed shows 60mb used....

Did this the other day on two phones on my plan and it still says 1gb used of unlimited. Legit!
