hello,
i have nexus phone (not nexus 4) for about a year.
i haven't rooted it. it simply has the root that came with it.
i have the latest version 4.2.2.

in the last month or so i found it very slow. when i press the people icon it takes 3 seconds to open. when i press an application (like whatsapp) it also takes few seconds to open. even when i typing a message sometime the keyboard is stuck for few secs.

i don't have lot on it so the memory is not full. couple of base application like whatsup, facebook, chrom etc.

also the battary last less. yesterday i left the house with 100% at 7AM. i have not charge it all the day. didn't talk at all, just surd in the internet every once in a while. and by 4PM i had 21% only.

can someone help me with this? is it an issue of 4.2.2 version maybe?

thanks in advance,

Sounds like you could be a perfect candidate for a factory reset to clean up the device... Over time the dalvik cache and other parts of the device get so overloaded it just starts to slow things down. Just like your home computer where you clear caches, cookies, etc when things get slow and laggy same happens to your smartphone.

thanks for the reply.
but there is a different between factory reset, where i loose all my apps, and cleaning catch and stuff.
is there a way to clean the catch without doing factory reset?
or is there an application that i can backup my phone in a way that after factory reset it will be back to be as it was? (with all the definition and applications)

Yes there is an app called Carbon backup. I haven't used it but many have with great results. I would look more into this.

That is the downfall to not being unlocked and rooted, when it comes time to backup your data/settings it becomes difficult because most programs require root access but Carbon is supposed to get around that.

I would check more into this and then try the factory reset once your back up is done.

I just did a factory reset of my GNex after experiencing similar issues. I would also recommend when you restore to not restore everything. Just want you actually need and use.

But my phone feels so much better now. Almost like new. It is really worth it if you have the time.

Yes, you can clear the caches without doing a factory reset. Will that help? Maybe. Certainly worth a try before you go the full reset route.

I make a habit myself being rooted of usually one or twice a month booting into my custom recovery and wiping dalvik cache and cache partition.
Brings my phone back to that like new snappy feeling every time ;-)

Instead of doing a full reset, I cleared the caches as mentioned above and it made a noticeable difference.

I have had my Nexus for less since October last year and I used to overload it with music, pictures and apps - I had no problem. All of a sudden it gets slow, apps stopped working at all, that was around January...ever since I have to reset it every couple of weeks except now I have barely any music, pictures or apps on it. Also I lost my original charger which I was using only outside of the house and now it won`t even charge unless I try 10 different cables, take out the battery 10 times and restart it at least twice...
