AC Question

randomly my perfectly working note 3 is not working.
I boot it up and it takes 5 minutes to start up whereas it normally takes 15 seconds.
When it starts up, there is black screen but the battery, wifi, data and time all work and the notification bar. S voice works fine.
There are also notifications saying I need to install google play services and all my frequently used apps like Instagram and WhatsApp have been deleted but other apps are still there. I also get different error messages popping up such a s contacts list has stopped working and media stopped working. I can only open files with s voice
and that shows I have my pictures and music. it also says SD CARD CAN BE SAFELY REMOVED someone help thanks I am really worried.

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11473

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem. You could try wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11017

I'm facing the same issues with my Note 3. I have tired both remedies mentioned above but nothing happened. What should I do now?

this happened to me a few days ago...the guys at Samsung Help flashed my phone and still no change. I can't put it on safe mode either. They suggested doing a factory reset should do it...but i've got some photos from a recent trip and i'd love to get them off the phone (which is locked) somehow....any advice would be much appreciated!! thanks

Exactly the same issue..Not sure what to do :( any help would be highly appreciated. Atleast suggest how to backup data?

It's strange that you can't even boot up into Safe Mode. When you follow the steps, it still dumps you to the black screen?

I had to hold on to the down volume button for 5mins as my phone loaded...im in safe mode but still the blank screen is there.

Hey. I also have the same problem on my Note 3 n9005. Usually when that screen appears, I reboot the phone until it sorts itself out. Maybe it helps too to keep a fan or an AC grille nearby while rebooting.

I'm working on a hunch here, but it's really a ROGUE APP that's inducing this problem, as I've read very few complaints about this prior to Lollipop. Specifically with the "Smart Manager" that I got in the last big update to it. It has a bit that "automatically optimizes" apps not used for awhile (It's EXTREMELY vague, but I guess it prevents push notifications and app servives on the background while app is not used, including autostart apps hence reported problems?) Other than that, you could get a newer battery (mine is 2.5 years old) or a newer SD card, they conk out after a while.

Or wipe the device completely...

I'm not sure if you need to use Kies or Smart Switch. Here's the help page for Kies: How do I Back Up and Restore my device using Kies 2.6?

For the pictures, you can also try connecting the phone to the computer via USB and using Windows Explorer to access the phone's internal storage.

The contacts will be much harder to access, if they're only saved to the local Phone account. You didn't save your contacts to your Google account instead? This is a much safer and more convenient way to save your contacts, because they get synced with your Google account in the cloud automatically (while contacts saved to the local Phone account don't get synced anywhere).

Hi !!! Im experiencing similar problems here ! my samsung note 3 suddenly stuck at the logo screen and i did all the steps to safe mode , the instructuon was to delete the apps but the screen is blank with safe mode enable !! Press settings but nothing can be done as there is only notif bar and a safe mode at the bottom left ! Any advice to continue?

I have had a similar experience.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
It ran low on battery (1%) so I turned it off. Half an hour later I plugged in the charger and turned it on.. It took 5 minutes to boot, and when it had finished I was left with a blank screen, apart from the notification bar at the top.
I could swipe down and turn on wifi, etc. I received notification of texts and emails, and if someone called me it rang. But no matter what I tried I could not get rid of the black screen. If, for example, I received a text, the messages app would not open when I tapped on the notification..
I could not get into the settings menu from the notification bar either.

It had been suggested that I try installing a new launcher by setting one to install from google play via my laptop.. but when I tried it would not download to the phone.

When I swipe down on the notification bar I had S-Finder, and I was able to search for the MyFiles app and run it. From there I was able to FTP my entire phone memory to a network hard drive. So that saved my pictures, etc.
I was also able to search for other apps and not down infromation form them. Not all of my apps were available though, and some that I could search for would not run.

Unfortunately i could not open the contacts app or messages app that way.

I tried plugging the phone into my laptop and running Keis, but it told me that the phone was locked.
Luckily, the Samsung "Find My Mobile" service (https://findmymobile.samsung.com) allows you to 'unlock my device' which removes any device locks on the phone.
I was then able to plug into Keis and do a full backup.
This also got rid of the black screen. After a re-boot the black screen went away and I had a very basic home screen with half my apps missing.

I was due for an upgrade, and I have since restored the backup to my new handset and all is working fine.

I have not tried a full factory reset on the Note 3 yet, but at least I have saved all my dats.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much nbosworth !!! I managed to copy all the pictures and files on an external SD card using the sfinder. So thank you very very much.
Unfortunately i didn't have a samsung account so i couldn't backup all the files using kies . Anyway you made my day !!!!! :D:D:D:D

Hi nbosworth,

I have the same issue. But when I use Find My Mobile, it doesn't connect to my phone, despite the fact that my wifi is on, and SIM is in the phone. I've contacted Samsung support, but so far, the best they could suggest was to install Kies or SideSync.

Any other ideas?

Imran .
