My notifications don't lead to the proper subject

I've tried Googling for other people talking about this, but have not had any luck. It's somewhat hard to describe, which may be my problem.

I get a notification from, say, Bleacher Report. I click it (touch, whatever), and it opens the BR app, but iend up at some screen/story I was previously looking at, instead of the story my notification was referencing.

Same issue with other apps. NPR News gives me a notification for a story, I select it, it opens the app, but I don't end up at the story being referenced.

I realize it could just be poorly designed apps and not the hardware or OS, but it seems to happen a lot across multiple apps.

A lot of apps are poorly designed that way - including a lot of the included messaging (texting) apps. Email each developer, letting them know the make and model of the phone, and the version of Android you're running. Some developers take emails like that seriously, find out why and fix it. Some don't. At least you have a chance that some of them will get fixed.
