Last night when I went to sleep, my One was fine. I plugged it in to charge like I always do (stock wall charger that comes with the device - the phone was probably at around 50% at the time) and didn't think anything of it. I've had the phone for about a month and it's been perfect. No issues, no unusual battery drains, nothing.
This morning when I went to unplug it, I noticed the led light wasn't on. I picked it up and pushed the power button and nothing. The device was completely unresponsive. I tried plugging it in with a couple of different chargers and into my PC and nothing. I called T-Mobile (around 8am) and they put in an order to send me a replacement.
5 hours later and I'm sitting at my desk eating lunch and out of nowhere the One reboots itself. It hadn't been touched in hours and I even had it back in it's original box. Had I not been sitting close enough to hear it vibrate when it started up, I never would have known it came back on. The battery meter was up to 76% so it did charge some before it died. The error report classified the event as an illegal shutdown.
Has anyone had anything even remotely similar happen? I was using a HTC Sensation for about 2 years before upgrading to the One and it never did anything like this.
Should I just go ahead and swap it out with the replacement phone when it gets here from T-Mobile? The rep said this morning that there would be a ~$200 fee if the device was deemed to have been damaged by me rather than being defective. They've already told me the only way to cancel the order is to refuse delivery when it gets here.
