My LG Optimus S runs so slow! I don't get it!
I am completely new to Android phones, but I'm not dumb. I have deleted all kinds of apps, I turned off most start up apps/processes, I don't use active/live widgets, I do everything to try and keep my phone going fast! I also reboot/restart it often.

My MFLOPS for Linpack is 3.934
My friends HTC G2 is 31.xxx

Seriously? I got this phone for free, but I'm about to pay 350 for an Epic.

Its the program, Sense they added the Ad's to it, it screwed up the FPS of the game. I updated my phone with the Custom Rom from here. And used a program called Adfree (Needs your phone rooted) to remove the ad's and it fixed the FPS problem on the Optimus.

Ya when you get to the second level on the seasons angry birds because of the chunky birds you get a little bit of lag trying to throw them lol but just flash the new thunde rom v1.3 of course you have to be rooted and have a custom recovery image it has these tweaks that enable the stagefright hack witch gives you faster quadrant scores as well as faster visuals if you buy setcpu from the android market you can also flash the zefie kernel and use setcpu to overclock and then download the ad removal app witch is also a big help to make it run smooth mine runs perfect with the occasional hick up here and there remember read everything before attempting anything of course lol :-)

I have a bone stock optimus S, using the "clean" sprint ID, and it plays fine.

I also have a few calendar widgets (calendarpad, blik), hotspot, wifi, ringtone, and I run tasker all the time, and it runs fine, and battery life still great.

Some of the levels are a little lagy at first, but after I launch a bird and destroy some stuff, it generally plays fine. Seasons seems to be a bit worse, but I have only played a few levels so far. I am using an ad blocker, so I know it is not the ads. I also just switched to ThundeROM, but it did not make the game any better (though I am now benchmarking at 945, up from 435).

Or, um... BUY THE FRIGGIN GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure there's an Angry Birds ad-free version for a couple of bucks in the market.

I'll be honest, I have ad-free running as well, mostly because my kids would play some children's puzzle game (that doesn't have an ad-free edition, surprisingly), and accidentally click things like "flirt with singles in your area". I just don't need that kind of stuff showing up for them.

I did notice that it also got rid of the ads in Angry Birds, which is welcome, but it still stutters a bit at the start of each level. I think that the game is trying to contact the server for the ads at that point. You have to understand, Ad-free does not remove your apps' routine for displaying ads, it merely routes those requests back to itself, thereby not finding anything and eventually timing out.
That means that your phone is still wasting precious processing power trying unsuccessfully to display ads that just aren't there, which still result in the slow downs you are experiencing, however much reduced due to the fact there is nothing to display. Eventually game play will continue as normal after the routine times out.
But the only way to really avoid that from happening at all, and have the game running 100% all the time, is to actually buy the full edition since it removes the routine entirely. I'm considering it myself.

Or umm...MAYBE THERE ISN'T AN AD-FREE VERSION TO BUY?!

Wasn't yelling without concrete information a little inappropriate?

Wow- comment retracted. I was running the webOS version a couple of weeks ago (still swapping between webOS and Android for dev purposes), and I must have mistook seeing Angry Birds in their market.

Odd that they never released it as an option to Android. Odd and Lame.

Yeah it sucks...that was the biggest time consumer for me. I really like Angry Birds and don't know why the developers don't release a paid version.

Probably because they know with Android they would make more off of ad revenue than placing it in the Market for sale. With Android O.S. it allows us to install non-market apps too easy.

They make an estimated 1-million per month in ad-revenue...although I think it's greedy, I wouldn't give that amount up either...lol

It's greedy not because of the money being made, but as stated in my previous point, it's because they haven't released an ad-free version for purchase.

If you root the phone, can't you install an ad blocker or something to that effect that would block the ads in Angry Birds? This is my first android phone and I've only had it for a week, so I'm still new to all of this, but that's the impression I had from reading around the forums.

You could get it from xda web site but you need to sign up I'm pretty sure and I only did that cuz for dev who makes that app that is how he make his day to day money or revenue he also says on the site before you can download his app it says support his work if you like it by buying it in the market and there is the free link I just dont wanna link someones hard work with out permission you know without at least giving him the chance of buying it

It looks, and I could be wrong, but I think Angry Birds is using the Android 2D library instead of OpenGL for rendering. That would explain why it's so demanding. JIT should help tremendously here.

Here is what I did so angry birds doesn't play choppy.

1. Rooted via z4root
2. Installed Titanium backup
3. uninstalled unwanted apps (just the ones I knew wont cause probs)
4. Moved via Titanium most apps to sd card

Did this and sometimes it plays better than on my evo

For the guys that it runs good on. What level are you guys on? Mine ran great on the lower levels, but now that I've gotten further in the game some levels have terrible lag and choppiness. The more stuff going on in the level the slower it is. I use a add blocker and that helps, but some levels are still almost unplayable.

My phone is rooted and I keep it very clean as far as apps are concerned. My GFs first gen Iphone runs it better.
