My phone keeps dumping all my contacts into this rental car

I don't know if this is a Pixel specific issue but maybe there's a Pixel setting.

I have a rental car and it has connected to my phone via Bluetooth and grabbed my contacts without my permission multiple times.

The first time, I don't recall any requests to connect on my phone. I told it to forget and deleted it from the car. The second time, it did ask, twice, and I said no. This usually ends it from my experience.

Nope, later, I found my phone and address book in the car computer. I erased it from the car, told my phone to forget.

Today... Again. This is over a week, not a day. I've never had this happen.

The car has wired Android Auto but I am talking about the car's own Bluetooth based phone system.

Is there a way to stop my phone from doing this?

Still in the shop , what they rebuilding the engine :)

Is there anything you see in bluetooth in phone or car says auto download?

Go to Settings>Bluetooth and tap the gear icon next to the car system. Is Contact Sharing checked on? If so, make sure it's off.

Tried that one of the times In caught it connecting. I quickly disabled sharing. It still was able to grab them. I probably didn't catch it in time.

Seems like there should be a setting to not auto correct to Bluetooth devices.

This was a really good idea to check. I was hopeful. No option that I could find to control the auto-connect behavior. I am just going to write a note to erase my data when I turn in the car and hope I remember. When I got the car, it had two other people's info already in it.

Today marks 2 weeks that my 3 month old car has been at the body shop. Paint bleed. Repainting at least two of the doors. I already forgot what it looks like so getting it back will be even more exciting! I have to try Bluetooth messaging again after using some of the tips I got here.

I thought I would update this for Android knowledge's sake.

Backstory... Hours after my last post a week ago, they called to tell me my car was done. While I was at the rental counter checking in the little Hyundai on my way to pick up my own car, they call and say... sorry, they screwed up the paint job we have to send it back. Ok. I looked at the rental car guy and said, "Do you have anything four doors instead of three, maybe doesn't smell like mold treatment?" He said, "Let's see... how about this (old looking) Kia Optima or a 2020 Escape with 1,500 miles on it?" I asked if the dealership would pay for the brand new Escape. He said he would make sure they do. I said, "Good. Please charge them triple." (I didn't say that last part)

Back to Android --- So, the 2020 Ford Escape will request access to my Pixel, my Pixel alerts me, but I have yet to acknowledge it and the car appears to NOT have any of my phone's contact info. In fact, it actually says that on the nav screen when you try to find it. However, it does connect to my phone for basic phone calling purposes and, as I said, I have never granted it any permission. So, something is going on in the phone that lets cars connect on at least some level without user permission. This isn't terrible but it seems like you should be able to control it and leave Bluetooth on. The Escape does not appear in my Bluetooth devices.

If you are keeping score, as of tomorrow, 3 weeks. Literally, contacting lawyers and I can't afford lawyers. Grrr. I'm kinda curious about whether my 2020 Hyundai just sucked up my contacts without asking. I don't remember my car much.

Thanks for updating this.
My experience on my Mustang with My Syn is it will ask if I want to download phone book,messages,etc... it should always ask that permission the vehicle just to use as bluetooth should be able just do that also.
