My phone keeps shutting down every time I lock screen

Long story short... my phone shuts down every time I hit the lock/power button and starts a reboot loop. I've had this phone since it first came out 2 years or so ago, and this is has happened a few times before. Usually, after I remove the battery for a few minutes it stops, but not this time. It started about 12 hours ago and I have done everything I can think of and its still happening. The only way I can get it to stop and fully startup, is to plug the phone onto its charger once it hits the Samsung GalaxyIII screen. Only then will it finish the startup process... but heaven forbid I hit that lock button... it starts all over again. I hate the screen time out and its really annoying to have the screen on without being able to black it out immediately. Anyone ever have this problem? Anything I can do, short of ditching my phone? Thanks for any and all help!

Sounds like you're encountering a pretty common problem with the the Power button (the plastic piece that you press on) getting stuck, which would cause the rebooting behavior. It's strange that you note that connecting a charger allows the phone to boot normally.

It's also possible that the actual Power switch on the mainboard is malfunctioning.
