@Wiggum - you're right about the audio, and there is an external hard drive next to it, so maybe thats causing the vibrations. I will definitely try this on more surfaces as you make a great point.
Still, after all of this, I believe it has to do with how Qi chargers operate:
Induction chargers typically use an induction coil to create an alternating electromagnetic field from within a charging base station, and a second induction coil in the portable device takes power from the electromagnetic field and converts it back into electrical current to charge the battery.
If the charger is very strong, the friction between the two items is drastically reduced, or there is some sort of resistance on the receiving device, then I can see where this could "spin" a phone/device in a consistent fashion. The strength of the charger, plus the slickness of the back of the phone, plus the pivot point on the charger = spinning. (IMO)
If it was just vibrations coming from something else on the table (not the phone or charger), then wouldnt the phone spin/vibrate in different directions based on the differing vibrations it is absorbing?
