Android Central Question

My phone starts downloading an app which is named 'Google Play' when I press it's dialogue for a second it shows 'Download Manager' as the app which is downloading it. But I don't have any download manager on my phone.

It seems fishy, something isn't right with the app, it's probably a malware. Please help!

The download manager is baked into the OS as a system app, so you aren't going to see it as an available app to interact with. Google Play does update itself periodically without user input, via the download manager.

This doesn't sound like anything nefarious going on with your phone.

Welcome to Android Central! It could be an update to the Google Play Store app (which happens in the background automatically), or it could have to do with some Google Play data libraries that are also handled in the background. I wouldn't worry about it.

Since you seem concerned about malware and security, read these:

I get that all the time on my phone, even though I have automatic updates turned off, my play store/services and library update automatically in the background... completely normal ;)
