My Plan for the Bionic

Also, if you keep reading, it clearly states that Verizon can refuse your return. I am amazed at the level of illiteracy and/or lack of reading comprehension in this country. It clearly states for any reason. I know that is a specific juxtaposition to termination of service, but it is still under the section including returns; therefore, that phraseology refers to returns as well. The fact that Verizon can refuse your return is also something that protects them from the practice you all abhor. Return away, I say.

It is intent that makes the difference. If I have a customer do that I will probably limit their ability to return (eg: in store credit or number of times they can return a like product)...I am not going to punish other customers who bought the product because they really thought it was what they wanted but truly do not like the product or have issues with it. If the big retailers like Costco pass the cost of these types of purchases on to me, imho I do not want to shop where these type of buyers shop, I would prefer supporting a smaller business...too bad only big companies get these toys I like! But to each his own.
Verizon can refuse the return.

The phone companies make NO money on a phone at the subsidized price. They make their money on the service contract.

You only read half of my statement. I said either man up and wait, or buy now and keep what you get assuming it does not have some flaw/missing feature.

I was waiting for an Android phone before most of the people on these forums had a clue what Android was.

So you would have me believe that you think when a customer buys a product and does not like it, even without something being wrong with it, they should have to keep it? That is what return policies are for. A customer buys a product with money that he or she had to work for, and has the option to put the money elsewhere if he or she is not totally satisfied with the product. If Costco were going under or losing money because of their generous 90 day return policy (which, again, is something Costco customers pay a premium for to begin with) they would change it or get rid of it.

And you yourself said they make their money on the service contract--something that isn't affected whatsoever by returning the phone and getting a different one, so long as I am just returning the phone and leaving my service unchanged. I think an action is justified as wrong if it is dishonest in nature, violates a policy in place, negatively affects a person or people, etc. There is nothing dishonest about bringing back a product for reasons that fall within the policy. I bought a Xoom in February, and right before my three months were up, I realized I was not pleased with having hundreds of dollars invested in it. I brought it back, and was specifically asked why I was returning it. All I said was, I am not totally happy with it. And that was the end of it.

The same will apply with the Bionic. I want it because it is hot and it is new. But if something comes along in the 90 day window that is better, my satisfaction with what I just spent hundreds of dollars on goes down--the cruel nature of being an Android fan, a lot can happen in ninety days. If the Vigor drops in 90 days, and I am not 100% satisfied with the Bionic as my phone of choice for the life of my 2 year contract, you can bet I am going to return it. And when they ask, I will say the same thing-- "I am not totally satisfied with it."

Also, I think there is an important point being overlooked here. If one were to sign a contract and get the Bionic, he or she would pay the subsidized price for it. If returned in 14 days, you get to pick a different phone. The ninety days applies to getting a full refund--the amount you paid for the device, which is the subsidized price. If you were to want a different phone, you would have to buy it outright for retail price. It would be cheaper since you could put the money you got back towards the purchase, but it would still be another 200 bucks or so out of pocket. They won't give you back more than you paid for the device.

So by this token, the smart thing to do would be to try to sell it privately, as you could sell it for more than subsidized but less than unsubsidized. I want to return it to Costco for the ease of it. Not because I expect a brand new phone for no extra cost.

You clearly have no idea whatsoever of the point I am trying to make and any further discussion is an exercise in futility. People will do what they will do and justify it to themselves in whatever manner they need to. I am done with this discussion.

Wait, that means I win, right? ;)

...and we as a society lose to the "I have to have it now, but will return it because I can and have no personal responsibility for anything" mentality that is sweeping through our midst. :(

Returns as they relate to cancellation of service could be directly inferred from that statement, but not exchanges for a different device.

I made an incorrect statement because I had not read vzw's policy in a while and didn't recall seeing the phrase 'for any reason' from when I had read it.

As I have said MANY times before I don't believe what the OP or other people are talking about is a violation of anyone's return policy as no company can prove intent.

I simply believe buying something KNOWING you plan to return it is wrong, period.

How about, "I want to sign a contract with a company and get the best product they have with the money I worked for. If I am not completely pleased with it, I will return it and pay a little extra in the long run to make sure I do not regret my hefty purchase." I'll bite that buying with the sole intention of returning it later is not an honest practice. But I plan to buy it, use it, get familiar with it, and return it only if I think there is something I will be more satisfied with. If you truly think that is wrong, then you are entitled to your opinion. But I have to ask what you think the 90 day guarantee is for, since defective products can be returned any time and are not part of the policy.

I suggest this thread be closed as this has gone so far beyond being specifically related to the bionic and has turned more into a pi$$ing match between moral beliefs, etc... Can we all get back to the regularly scheduled program that involves the upcoming release of what should be a very nice phone?

Well technically I think the discussion has been pretty relevant to the OP, since it was asked what people thought about it. But yeah. Probably pretty unnecessary at this point.

All in good fun, for me at least. I don't feel as though there has been any hostility.

We can all agree that this phone will be awesome, and worth getting!

No bad feelings or hostility here, just differing beliefs.

I agree but as it was stated earlier, its an exercise in futility. Most of us have an opinion that is one way or another, fact doesn't trump opinions, at least hardly ever. I don't care if its a fact something is not true, if someone believes somehow it is, it is (to them) and nothing anyone can say/do about it will change that fact. We're basically at a low level, debating right vs wrong which is not on-topic, in my mind. (try to convince me otherwise, i dare ya! hehe)

Just tossing my opinion out there which is all any of us have done. No hard feelings either, just 'testy' due to being all amped up waiting for the Bionic to release
