my reasons why it is or might be going back thread.

Good luck with the replacement device. I hope everything works out.

I returned/exchanged my Fascinate today for a Droid X. I'm regretting it somewhat already, but we'll see when the X arrives.

Sorry!

sorry but im returning this phone back and getting my lady the Dinc . this phone sucks compared to my Dinc (this is my opinion) it nearly comes with widgets and so many bugs and lags .so what if the screen is nice

It started with th 4th day, the incoming mail server would not accept email and the outgoing server would show the mail in the outbox but it was never sent. In the last 4 days and several calls to Version tech, the only way to correct the problem was doing a battery pull. The tech indicated a internal problem so it goes back to the store today to be replaced.

FWIW . . . Either read in this forum or elsewhere, sometime late in September the Super Amoled screen will be replaced with a different LCD screen because of the lack of availability.

After three years on a BlackBerry, I miss some of the feature of the BB but this new Fascinate performs better and has features that are better . . .but also has some 'you got to be kidding things'. Hope the replacement works as advertised.

You might be confusing that with the regular AMOLED screen that's on the DInc that is being replaced by a SLCD, which I believe will start the end of Sept. I haven't seen anything regarding the SAMOLED screens.

I've had both, and while I think the Incredible is amazing, I do not share your opinion about the Fascinate. It has performed like the Increbile on steroids and has a much more desirable screen technology and size. I use Launcher Pro, so that might skew my opinion somewhat. No lags or glitches that I've run in to.

P.S. I don't think we need multiple threads saying the same thing, I'm merging them together.

If you go into Applications - Settings - Applications - Manage applications - Twlauncher and select clear data under storage, it will resort the apps alphabetically, not sure what else it clears though?

This completely resets all your customizations that you did to all your screens.

I like it

I went into the phone open minded and have come out liking it a lot.

The only thing that is buggin me is that there is no pretty solution to an extended battery yet. Personally I haven't run into any of the other issues with the phone that people are complaining about, but I'd say just wait until the update to 2.2 comes out before you go on a witch hunt.

The whole bing thing doesn't bug me as I use vlingo anyway. The one thing that does still get me which is verizon and not fascinate related is that Skype doesn't go over wifi/3g yet. I got around that though using Nimbuzz, so no worries there either.

I'm regretting it somewhat already, but we'll see when the X arrives.

Also a fantastic phone, as long as you are cool with the size, which takes about 3 hours to get used to. Another phone where I immediately covered up the stock launcher with LP.

The only thing is I would prefer to have the USB port at the bottom or side of the device, I don't like it coming out of the top.

Coming from a VzW Touch Pro 2.. I couldn't agree more... makes much more sense to have the "weight" of the cables coming out of the bottom, rather than the top of the phone...

It'd be cool if the phone allowed you to rotate it 180 degrees for the few times that you are using it with something plugged in (either usb or audio cable)... This would also make alot of sense to have the phone with cables going "down" when mounted in a vertical car-holder..

As to the point of this thread.... Coming from a Touch Pro2.. I don't have any complaints about this phone. I've never had any other android, so, can't compare to others. But in comparison to the Windows Mobile (even though HTC made that device as Perfect as possible with Windows Mobile)... this phone just blows it out of the water..

Now with the de-bing (stole from another person on these forums), and swapping out TouchWiz for LauncherPro.... any issues I had in the beginning are gone...

(oh,, custom contact ringtones are still giving me grief... yes, I've read the tips on creating a local phone contact and linking it to the google contact... I just can't believe that's the only option... currently trying to get Ringo Pro to work for me... will report back if i have success there).

Thanks for the tip on NoLED!!!

Even with the recent updates, I find this app to still be flakey on the Fascinate. The only other phone I know of that doesn't include an Led for notifications is the iPhone. Bad bad bad.

The buttons and USB port are in the wrong places IMHO. The volume buttons are inaccessible when docked. They should be on the right side of the phone where the power button is. The power button should be on top, where it is on every other phone, and the USB port should be moved to the left side of the phone, and the dock should be modified so the jack is on the bottom where it can plug into my relocated (per my suggestion) USB port on the phone.

Well, I guess I'll add my two cents. I'm coming from a Samsung BlackJack on AT&T, so for me the Fascinate is such a dramatic improvement I can't imagine complaining about it. It's like living in the future!

For me, none of the other Verizon Android phones were quite right. I don't want a hardware keyboard (I prefer the slim form factor), and the X is a hair too big for me. I probably could have been very happy with the Incredible, but the 3.7" screen seemed just a bit too small for me. So the 4" SAMOLED screen is what sold me on the Fascinate, and I have no regrets.

There are definitely things about the phone that bug me, but they're all little nuisance things. I wish some aspects of the software were more customizable, and I wish the headphone jack were on the bottom instead of the top. But these things are all minor, and I recognize that no phone is perfect -- I would find just as many things to grumble about with any other phone, I'm sure.

On balance, I love the Fascinate, and I'm optimistic that it will only get better when we get Froyo. (Of course, that will come too late for anyone who's trying to decide whether to return it within the 30-day window.)

I am waiting for mine to arrive today...but I just read all pages and will make a little comment....

So far 99% of complaints are software related which cam be addressed either with an ota or a custom Rom....if you think battery life is bad on fascinate, wait till you try out the incredible. :D

I have had all droids up until this point and each one had certain glitches. Most of the time, there are work arounds. Currently I have an incredible, and I have it setup where it runs absolutely flawless. I played with fascinate at a store twice and am going for it more based on reading reviews and with a completely neutral perspective. There are many factors that determine whether you like any device...some include: being new to smartphones, being new to android, being a pro at android and mods, personal preferences and so on.

I do have 30 days, therefore I will compare it side by side with my incredible (as that's what I chose out of droids as device of my likes)...and will see. Two things I believe I can firmly conclude: battery life and call quality cannot be worse than Incredible as those my two hates about Inc. I will keep you all posted. :)

Yeah, that's an important point to remember. I'm always amazed at how much reports can vary on a particular phone's good and bad points. Some of it is personal taste, and some of it is the fact that usage patterns can widely vary from one user to another.

For example, I've been very pleased with the battery life on the Fascinate. It has been much better than I had been led to expect. Other people say the battery life is disappointing, and I don't disbelieve them ... I can only assume that the difference comes from how they use the phone, what apps they're running, what kind of 3G coverage they have, and all the other factors that can apply.

I'm a big fan of the Fascinate, and it kinda makes me sad to hear someone say they might return it ... but then I remind myself that it's just a phone, and the fact that it doesn't fit somebody else's needs doesn't affect how well it works for me!

There are people out there who love their Droid Erises and Motorola Backflips. Or so I assume...

Thanks, I definitely will roll with LP. The scrollable bottom dock is da bomb.

Yeah, they got everything bass ackwards. :D

But it's the screen, that gorgeous just right sized screen, and oh so good form factor that makes you forgive the Fascinate for it's shortcomings. ;)

Look, yep. Love this phone despite the button/port layout.

I don't understand all the hate for the power button, USB port, and headphone jack on the Fascinate. Granted this is my first smart phone so my brain isn't trained to where these items "should" be from a previous phone.

Power Button: On the Fascinate I can hit it with my right thumb or left index finger without adjusting my grip at all. On phones where the power button is on top I can't do this.

USB Port: When using the phone while plugged in (with the exception of non-speakerphone calls) the cord is not in the way at all unlike if it were on the side or even the bottom of the phone. Yes, it is nearly impossible to hold the phone up to your ear while plugged in but that is true of most phones.

Headphone Jack: Pretty much the same argument as the USB cord, although having the port on the bottom would work just as well. My Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headset pretty much makes this a moot point though.

Well, I decided, the fascinate is getting de-rooted and returned.

I actually had to exit the freeway, pull over and wait the other day since I couldn't get directions on the fly like I can (and do) with my D1. The GPS being so slow to lock for navigation was the last straw. As I said before, I really want to love the phone and will miss aspects of it. That said, the core features (phone, internet and gps) need to be 100% funtional and of the highest priority. On this phone, that is just not the case. I don't want to wait past my 30 days hoping an update might come to fix things.

Other nagging problems were mentioned previously and the ones that really kept bothering me were the poor quality/design of the desk dock-phone integration, general phone lag and really variable signal strength. I think I would have lived with them if the GPS was better.

I will now go back into wait mode for the next phone; hopefully one that is an HTC since I am not sure I can handle stepping down to the smaller screen on the D2 or Inc and the DX is not a good match for me. So, back to the stone ages with my D1 until then. Bah.
