I'd really appreciate some help before I take my phone back to my provider.
I'm SURE my pictures shouldn't be turning out like this but every single photo I take with my S5 comes out in awful quality, regardless of the settings. I've owned the handset for about a month now and it's really bugging me now as one of the reasons I bought it was for the amazing camera. Is this a hardware fault?
This photo was taken in full 16mp resolution... It REALLY doesn't look like it. My Lumia 920's photos were far better and it's only a 8mp camera. What's going on here?

and here's a close up

It's because of the low light. Mine, any many others on here experience the same. It's very hard to get a clear image when light levels aren't optimal.

I too thought something was wrong when first getting the S5.

Thanks for your answer. I will try experimenting more with light levels etc. It's just slightly disappointing since I was used to the great low light capabilities of the Lumia. I need to get super clear shots of small objects in low light environments. I guess I'll just have to make it as bright as possible. I also noticed problems with the autofocus on objects closer than 50cm. It just wouldn't focus on the close up object. I'm guessing that's down to light as well?

I hear ya. I was dissapointed as well after getting it. I haven't taken many close up shots with the s5, so I cant really say. There is a selective focus option in the camera settings, but i don't know how close it let's you get.

Lol. Your hell bent on defending the S5 camera.

I don't defend anything.. I am just showing what can be done with this camera. If there is another camera/phone that is better, I don't know. I've only used the S3, S5, and iPhone 5S. If other S5 users cannot get reasonably good images from theirs either they are doing something wrong or their camera is defective... The OP's image looks to me like he may have left the plastic over the lens.. I could be wrong though..

With that said....Am I violating forum rules by posting an image? If not why the sarcasm?

There has been numerous threads about the S5 camera having issues with quality low light images. At this point I wouldn't say it's an anomaly, it's just not very good at taking low light images. Many of these people have stated that other devices take a better low light picture. I agree with these people, as I've seen it on other devices. You really have to work with the s5 to get a stable and clear picture in low light. Not the case with other camera phones.

I was referencing that you always jump to the defence of the S5 camera. I'm starting to think samsung pays your wages. Lol

and you seem hell bent on dissing it, actually sound like an Apple fan, I have no issues at all with low light pictures

I own an S5. If i was an apple fan boy, don't you think I'd have an apple. Some people get **** hurt when something negative is said about the product that they own. I'm speaking from the experience that I've had with my phone, which also seems to be the experience of many others.

And most if not all makes me think they are not using their camera right..

No camera phone is going to perform like the DSLR but you can and I do get reasonably good quality from mine. Again not as good as my D4..

As I have said before I don't or won't defend what is working for me... On the other hand you seem dead set on proving me wrong..

then maybe the was a faulty batch?

Hmmmmm, my S5's camera is ten times better than my Nikon 35 mm camera

Someone posted that the protective film needed to be removed... I did not even know there was a protective film there so THANK YOU!
I did do so. However, the film had a whole cut out in the middle where the center of the lens is - so not sure how much diff it will make.
My previous phone was iphone4s...
My husband has galaxyS4 and I just bought the galaxys5 - have not really tried the camera yet.
however, we just got back from two week trip to france and both of us took pics of the same things - gotta say - my pics with my iphone are a lot better.
(However, i am really a better photographer than he is as far as setting up shots - holding camera steady and composition).
I am going to try taking pics with both phones to compare.
I turned off phone service to my i phone, but obviously, i can still use it.
I do think the screen on the new galaxy is much brighter, clearer, easier to read than on my old i phone.
also - did not like the six week wait for i phone with 64mb - apple is way too proprietary and got tired of being a lemming.
