My Samsung Galaxy Tab3 is crazy slow! Never really been used before

Hi

My father got the Samsung Galaxy Tab3 for free in 2013 when he bought a Samsung phone. It was never really used by the family at all (I forgot he even had it), but occasionally my father used it a few times at his work place, but that was it.

Now he gave me the tablet today (as I was looking to purchase one) but luckily we had this. I have been using it all morning and it is quite slow! Slow performance, slow loading, etc

I checked for the latest update and that seems to be all ok; Android Version 4.4.2. I presumed that the latest Android was 7.0?
I have cleared cache, used a few storage clearance apps, but that hasnt really helped. I doubt editing the 'Animation' will help a lot..

I dont really understand why it is slow. It has not been used continuously since we got it in 2013. Latest update seems to have been applied. There are not many 'tablet intensive apps'. The whole device just seems...slow.

Not sure what to do. Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

P.S I dont really want to purchase a new tablet, as this seems perfect! Great size, video quality is 720 (kinda sucks) but its good enough for general use!

Since your dad used it previously, you should reset it. It should work a lot faster after a reset.

Hi

There was really nothing on the tablet when I checked. No photos, documents, just some apps. He hardly ever used it, just maybe google, a few apps etc.

So I did a "wipe date/factory reset" and it seems to have improved a bit. Still a tad slow/laggy in places. But I will see how it performs today. Thanks for telling me about the reset

What are other solutions though? Again, the reset has helped, but it doesnt feel like a fast new tablet...

If this is true, (see BOLD text above), then you do not have a Tab S3. The Tab S3 was only released this past Fall, 2017. You have an earlier version of a Galaxy Tab (there were many). Another clue is you note it has "Android Version 4.4.2." I had an older Tab and there was no upgrade available to get to Android 7.

A tablet that old will naturally feel slower than current smartphones and/or tablets. Does not mean it is not useful -- it should run just fine with most apps. Might be a bit troublesome with video resolution or with complicated graphics, but text-based apps should run OK. Just have to be a bit patient due to the older generation processor and memory.

Good luck. Cheers.

Hey

oh really? Ye maybe it is an older version. But on the box it is called:

Samsung Galaxy Tab3, 7 inch, 8GB. SM-T210.

Not sure if it helps, but ye you are probably right in that its an old tablet

I will see how I cope with this, and if I want, I can just buy a cheapish tablet.

Most budget tablet will run slow after awhile especially those with older operating system. Make sure you checked for the lastest updates after the reset.

Yeah, that's an older tablet. The Tab S3 (the tablet this forum section is geared toward) has a model number of SM-T820 and is running Nougat out of the box (7.1) as well as being a 9.7" device.

That tablet should still run well after a factory reset but that 8 GB of storage is a bit slim and might contribute to the slowness due to low reserve space.

Ohh ok thanks all for the kind info.
Do you think there is any more I can do to make it faster?
I was using it yesterday evening and I am liking the tablet but still slow sometimes. Usually browsing google. Youtube is alright and so is using apps but its not 100%. What else can I do?

Lastly, if I do decide to purchase a tablet. do you think the 7" 'Huawei' or 'Lenovo' tablets are any good? This probably is not the correct place to ask this, could you recommend me a thread to ask such a question?

Thank you
