My Samsung S5 will only stay on while it's on the charger. What do I need to do?

My Samsung s5 will only stay on while it's on the charger.

My battery is full. It keeps restarting over and over and only stays on while on the charger. I just installed a software update as well. My phone got extremely hot during this update for some reason. Phone was working fine before the update.

Welcome to Android Central! The battery may have failed, even though it claims to be 100%. Try a new or different battery.

I wonder if it might be worth factory resetting, a bit drastic, but might work

Pull the battery, wait a minute or so then put it back in. If the problem continues, then I suggest you go to a mobile battery service store, such as Batteries Plus. They will test your battery for free.
