My screen turns on when I put it in my holster

Ok I have the oem style holster from Verizon that I like very much. It appears that when I put my phone into my holster it is pushing on the home button and turning on the screen. Is there a way to make only the top button be the on button? Otherwise I will have to modify my holster to keep it from contantly turning on the screen. It is just tight enough that any movement can turn on the screen. Thanks for any advice. I do not want to use any other holster by the way.

You must have a magnet in the holster. (The X doesn't take kindly to BlackBerry type magnets in holsters.) The X has two magnet-sensitive spots ... upper left for car dock and lower left for media/dock - as you face the screen.

If you pass a magnet going in or out of a holster (or purse, for that matter), it will turn on the screen... or possibly activate the modes for car dock or media dock. For the X, there shouldn't be a magnet in the holster. Unfortunately, many holsters have magnets in them because BlackBerries require a magnet set in the holster facing the screen to put them to "sleep" while holstered. Not so for the X.

Download Dock Nothingness from market should help and if you want to still use dock, download dock simulator so you can activate dock still.

The OP stated that the oem holster is pressing on the physical Home key which is causing the problem. An oem holster for an X wouldn't have a magnet in it.

I suggest taking your case and receipt back to Verizon for an exchange for another holster. The holster tolerances are most likely off on the one you have.

Just because it's oem, doesn't mean there is no magnet there, if the op is referring to a sideways holster. These are often multi-phone capable. Verizon also sells BlackBerries. Worth checking for. If no magnet, then I agree - return it.

It does not have a magnet. It has the like spring clip at the to that holds the phone in place. The phone goes backwards into the case and the case presses on the key. I cut and oval hole in the case where it would contact that one key and the problem stopped. I really wish there was an option to make the home key only work once the phone was unlocked. I guess I don't understand the point of having two keys that unlock the phone or turn off the screen.

The OP is correct. The OEM holster was not very well thought out.
There is no magnet, it is a tight fit and when placing the phone in the holster the Home button touches the surface and is pressed. This can happen when putting the phone in and at times when taking the phone out.
We have several using this combo and most experience this issue.
I have gone as far as to heat the bottom prongs and bend them outward so the phone face sits a little further away. It worked better but still occasionally activated the phone.

The only solution unfortunately was to purchase a Seidio phone only holster. Well thought out, easier to holster and take out and never activates the phone. Shame that an aftermarket company does such a better job than the OEM.

Hope this helps.

I went in to the Verizon store to get another holster so I could modify it better and they are discontinued and the manager gave me two for $8.00 including tax. I tried a different one and it does not hit the home button. The dise a tight though. These things have terrible tolerances.
