Android Central Question

I had this SD card in the same phone before. I took it out to put in another devise and it worked. I got the same phone hooked back up and tried to put the SD card back in(phone was off when I put it back in!) But it tells me SD card was removed unexpectedly and will not read it. I have tried unmounting it and remounting it and it still will not work. What could be the problem. The phone is a Moto E 2nd Generation.

Try it in a PC (or another phone) again. If it works, the SD card slot in your phone is probably bad, and has to be replaced. If it doesn't work, the card went bad. (If it's a SanDisk card, go to SanDisk microSD Tech Support, upper right, to Live Chat, and ask for help. The card is probably still in warranty (it's either 5 years or lifetime, depending on the card), so they'll replace it. If it's some other manufacturer, buy another card. (Try a SanDisk this time.)

Welcome to Android Central! When you removed the card, did you go to Settings>Storage and tap Unmount Card first? Or did you power down first, then remove the card? If you remove a card while the phone is on, without tapping Unmount, you can potentially cause data corruption on the card if the phone happened to be performing a read/write operation at the time you took it out. It's the same reason why you're supposed to use the Eject option for a USB drive on a PC, instead of just pulling it.
