My smartphone has no network abroad

Hi everybody,

I've been having connectivity issues with my smartphones over the last couple of years (different brands, different models). Every time I'm abroad, my phones lose connection. As soon as I'm back home, everything works fine again (in case it's relevant, I live in Austria; I have two SIM cards: one domestic and one from another country, of course with different mobile providers; the problem usually occurs with both SIMs at the same time).

I think I've tried almost everything:
  • Roaming and mobile data are activated.
  • The automatic search for mobile networks is on (I also tried the manual option, but none of the smartphones could connect to any network — just an error message saying the connection is not possible).
  • I experimented with APNs (e.g., adding one from a local mobile provider).
  • I tried removing and reinserting the SIM cards.
  • The obvious things like flight mode or restarting.

What could be the problem?

Regards,
Misha

Welcome to Android Central! There are a few different possibilities. It's important to know which phones you have (the exact brands and model names/numbers) and which countries/networks they've had problems with. It could be that the phones don't support the bands used by the networks in those countries, or it could be that you were in a country that shut down 2G and 3G, thus requiring that your phone be compatible with VoLTE on the roaming network (and VoLTE compatibility is not universal).

Thanks a lot B. Diddy! So I got these problems with Cubot King Kong Mini 2, Motorola Moto E40, Motorola Moto E13. They lose the network in Spain and Italy.

So far I could google, the bands are supported by my phones and 2G/3G are not deactivated by these countries.

Hmm. Have you checked with the carriers for both of your SIMs to make sure roaming hasn't been blocked at the carrier level (or perhaps they're plans that don't include roaming)?
