Swype is beyond awesome

After converting to the EVO from a long line of Palm Treos I had two major impressions: 1) The EVO is as close to perfect as I could have imagined in a mobile device and 2) The only source of frustration I have had since getting this phone is typing on the touchscreen. Yeah, it's a big screen, especially when in landscape, but I was really able to fly on my physical keyboard Treos. With the EVO no matter what I felt like I was lucky to type half as fast with twice as many errors. Enter: Swype. The demo looked cool so I figured I'd try it. Holy Crap!! It works so well I find myself laughing out loud in public. I'm walking through the airport yesterday (after installing it on the plane) and with one hand I'm holding the phone and Swyping and every time I think "no way it's going to get that word, I was all over the place" poof, up pops the correct word. I've shown like a dozen people in the past 24 hours and everyone's jaw just drops open at the accuracy of this thing. Man, I couldn't be more impressed. And the biggest surprise is that it's actually easier to Swype on the portrait keyboard since the keys are closer together and thus quicker to swype between.

Anyway, for anyone on the fence about trying it out, you gotta at least give it a trial. Maybe for some people it doesn't click like it does for me. But I would give up almost any other single app at this point before Swype.

I think swype works well for one handed typing, but I think it's slower than tapping with two thumbs.

Re: Swype is beyond awesome

I actually got 2 iphone upgraders to buy Android instead after showing them Swype.

Swype is fail until they include the microphone button on the home keyboard for voice texts, which are infinitely faster than anything they can do here. Show me another software that can correctly spell Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from a voice text!

Other than that, yea it's cool.

My fingers are too fat or something.... err, I mean the keyboard's buttons are too small for me to use Swype accurately.

Can't speak for others but if I'm going to voice text I might as well call. I mostly use text when I don't wasn't people to hear me.

It's very easy to flip back to the traditional keyboard if you want or need voice texting.

Sent from my HTC Evo 4g

Yep, probably not a dealbreaker for most people, the only time ive even thought of using is while driving.

Swype is awesome!!

SWYPE Beta Closed ... DAMMIT

I feel ya on the awesomeness of this type of app ... I had "shapewriter" which is like "swype" till I had to do a reset to find that it was no longer on my phone with the rest of my saved apps ... Not only that but couldn't find it in the Market either ... I went to download "swype" to find out the beta is now closed ... DAMMIT ... In the past 2 weeks I have become used to the swype input and now i am without . :(

I have both shapewriter and swype installed on my Evo. shapewriter works but swype doesn't for some reason. Swype just won't make any words for me, but i can use its keyboard to type.

I've been using Swype since they reopened the Beta a couple weeks back and love it! I'm using it right now.i tried Shapewriter and didn't like the lag. I'm keeping on my phone just incase when ever the swype beta expires without notice. But I can never go back to the same way off texting again. People look at how I text without even me saying anything and see how I'm texting and are in awe by it!

I heart swype. I'm using it as well to type this post. I've been finding any excuse to use swype! No need for a physical keyboard.

I started using Swype last week and I absolutley love it. I switched over to the Evo from the Palm Pre and was missing the keyboard at times. Not now. Swype makes entering text so quick and easy. There was definitely a learning curve, but I wouldn't give it up now. I too like to use the voice text entry method when driving, and I find it is easy to switch input methods on the fly.

I tried Swype on the Hero - it sucked. On the EVO, it was a lot better and I started liking it but it was still too frustrating at times.

When I rooted and installed DamageControl, I started using the original keyboard for a bit and realized it's a lot faster to use.

Its text prediction is far superior and I am way less frustrated when spelling unfamiliar words. Swype goes back to the trash for now.
