My Tablet Won't Play Videos That Come Over the Internet.

My 2nd generation Nexus 7 LTE Android 4.4.4 Tablet will not play any videos that come via the Internet to ANY app like Facebook, YouTube, Vine, Keek, etc. this evening. *My 2 computers play them as does my Nexus 5 Android 4.4.4 Smart Phone. I even restarted our wireless router just in case. The error message says that an unknown error prevented the video from playing. Please try again. But they never play. Have I accidentally flipped some switch? Please help. By the way, it doesn't matter whether I use my home WiFi, 4G LTE data or my neighbor's WiFi, the Tablet will not play videos.

Yes, I did what you suggested about cleaning the cache as well as operating in the Safe Mode which was suggested by Mike in the Google Products Forums. Marc from Google Products Forums was the one who questioned where my data was coming from.

I have actually solved the problem, but it is not a solution I can live with. I must not let the Tablet connect to my AT&T/Yahoo Mail account. It is the last app that loads when the Tablet boots up and as soon as it does, I lose the ability to play videos. At first, I thought it might just be the Yahoo Mail app itself, so I uninstalled it and installed another that can handle AT&T/Yahoo Mail. However, that generates the same problem.

The big problem is that AT&T/Yahoo Mail is my main email account. What am I supposed to do? What can it be about the POP3 and/or the SMTP settings that throw Internet videos off I have had AT&T/Yahoo Mail and videos since the beginning. Someone please help me through this. There is no problem with my Nexus 5 phone Android 4.4.4 and Yahoo Mail and videos.

You can import your Yahoo mail into your Gmail account. That might solve things. Gmail will identify your Yahoo emails with a little tag, so that you know which is which. If you want to keep sending mail from your Yahoo account, you can set Gmail to do that as well. Yahoo used to require you to pay for their premium email service in order to do this, but at some point in the last couple of years, they abandoned that annoying practice.

Open Gmail on your computer browser, click on the gear icon at the upper right, and then Settings. Now click on Accounts and Import, then Import Mail and Contacts, and follow the instructions from there.

I think this a good work around and might try it. Along these lines, I realized that my Yahoo mail is being forwarded already to OutLook.com. Maybe I can just use an OutLook.com app for Android and get them that way. Similar to your thinking, but I surely would like to know why I must suddenly jump through these hoops. I thank you VERY MUCH, but I might wait a day or 2 to see whether someone can fix the underlying problem. I hope you can understand.

Did you find the root cause of this issue? Also I am very curious - how did you identify Yahoo Mail as the culprit? I have similar issues on a different type of tablet and I can't figure out what is causing it.

Some one was kind enough to get me in touch with Google and there is apparently no short cut around the road I have embarked upon now. I will keep the phone in Safe Mode all weekend to be sure there are no system induced freeze ups. Then, I will delete all of my 3rd party apps and add them back one at a time to find the one(s) incompatible with Android 5.1. Thank you again.

I'm having the same problem. I can not play anything off of crome or fb but can play from utube it just says its lost connection or just stays blank with black screen it did 2weeks ago in my class has the same tablet an it works on hers any advice plz

I would advise doing a cache partition wipe. That solved all of my problems Lukeoo7.

"Polaroid Tablet" sounds like the incorrect forum, but I guess there is no generic tablet forum here. At least I can't find one.

Not sure why you need a Factory Reset? You do not describe the problem that leads you to Factory Reset...

Anyhow, can you plug the tablet into a PC and have it recognized? Transfer photos to PC that way and then Factory Reset your tablet... Or try a file transfer App like Airdroid to transfer between Tablet and almost any other device like a PC or Android phone...

Try to open the Vimeo adress with Firefox instead of Chrome.
Works for me. Asus tablet.
