My thoughts on the Galaxy Note 2, three months into owning this device....

A few months ago I went from owning a LG Optimus S to the GN2 and let me tell you, it is like night and day. Personally I do not care at this point what any other phone can do, I really enjoy the capabilities that this phone has and it is still so relevant. I went to the Sprint store and tinkered a lot with the G4 and the One, and both are really great phones. I would use them in a heartbeat but my point is, I did not feel that I was missing out on anything on the GN2 compared to those phones. There will always be phones with better specs on paper but the average user really should be happy with any of these latest phones including the GN2. My phone still stops people in their tracks due to the size and how wonderful the screen looks. As for people complaining about Samsung bloatware and the plastic backing, I just turn a blind eye. Every phone has programs loaded on by the phone manufacturer and the cell carrier. If you want Vanilla, get a Nexus, One or S4 that is pure Google.

I have the coolest case on my phone (in my opinion). It is all chrome around the phone and the back is chrome covered with silver sparkles. Yes, it is girly, but I am a girl LOL. However, it is sturdy and I do not even see the plastic backing. Also it looks awesome with the white color of the phone and the case just masks any indication of plastic. Personally, the plastic does not bother me, I like the look of the Samsung phones but I care more about the screen size and the clarity of the screen itself (on any cell phone). My Optimus S wasn't exactly a looker but it served me quite well for almost two years.

I may be in the minority, but 16GB is plenty of space for me. Would I prefer 32 or 64GB of space? Sure, but that would have came with a cost if it was available on Sprint. I learn to manage what I am given and buy what I can afford.

I put in a small 8GB SD card which holds my photos (which is not many). I really use my digital camera most of the time for pictures. Luckily I have not had to remove the back nor the battery as of yet but I do like the fact the battery is removable. I remember at times my Optimus S acting wonky, and I was able to pull the battery when needed.

As for updates, I know the phone is promised 4.2 (and now 4.3) and possibly even Key Lime Pie, but I am in no hurry. The phone is just great for me the way it is. I know it will be updated and will be happy if it is before the end of the year.

All in all, I am very happy with my choice, have no buyers remorse and will be happy with this phone until my next upgrade which is in November of 2014. I always wait until my contract is up to upgrade and it is a choice I am happy with. I do read up on all the other phones until my next upgrade just because I love tech so much, but I do not let the latest and greatest get to me. As long as I can make calls, text, watch movies, play games and tinker, I am one happy camper.

I just had to put my two cents in. A lot of this is based on all the complaints across all the forums on all the phones (which I read) O:-)

Nice personal review. Still a great phone for me as well.

Thank you for the review wafa510. I to have my GN2 a short time, 4 months. I posted in another thread that I feel I have been more productive in the last 4 months then the past 4 years with my BlackBerry's. A day doesn't go by that I'm not using my GN2 at work to get things done quickly and easily. It easy to keep up with the days news, Facebook and Google+. It's a great phone. I'm hoping that what I read about Samsung coming out with a 12" tablet later this year is true. That would be a perfect match for me.

Indeed yes, the GN2 is a great choice for lots of people... got mine three weeks ago and so far... it simply works for me. I'm busy trying different forms for docks and cases (my wife loves her blingy sparkly ones she has on her GS4... ya, definitely a girly thing)... I plan a big review post on the various one's I'm trying (and no they are not all black and boring- just got a Snoopy one from China the other day :))

As far as more memory... not really a big deal... I do have a 64GB sdcard, but I tend to push my pictures off to the cloud or FB... and if I want to show them from my phone... well, gee I just go to the cloud and show them from there... I think the noise about the memory limits is just folks nit picking... like the the plastic complaint... (I figure if it really bothers folks that much... just get one of those metal covering cases...and the screw-driver out... and get over it. You can actually make your GN2 look just like on over-sized fruit phone :)).

And my goodness, if you are using that much main memory for hundreds of apps- well root and rom your phone to JB so you can app2sd to your 64GB limited sd card... and when you run out of space on the sdcard... umm, maybe it's time to rethink your view that these devices are full PC-replacements :) -I mean my laptop has 2 teraByte hdd, 8 cores, and 32GB memory... and outputs to a HDMI 55" screen- well, I'm computer engineer... I use the super-uber-computer when I need to...

Anyway, the GN2 is a great device... I don't even mind the Fruit-Phone people at work making fun of my "over-size" Note... I just pull into multi-view and demo reading their moronic emails while monitoring their business systems... yeah, it gets real quite as I point out I prefer an adult sized device as opposed to a toy better suited to an eight year old... with smaller hands, brains, and yet higher expectations as to the most number of "fart" apps....

Happy GN2'ing

I love your review and comments and I love my GN2 (5 1/2 months old). The GN2 is a great phone and now any other phone just seems small. I love how you can quickly pull out the stylus and jot a quick note, etc.

Great review OP! I couldn't agree with you more. I have only had the Note 2 for under a month, and wouldn't loon back.
I cam from a BlackBerry Z10 and then the Q10, to this, and haven't felt more productive.
I can do way more on my Note 2 then I could have in the past.
My only regret is not getting the Note 2 sooner.

Really fun observations, thanks! I totally dig my SGN2 still and likely will for a long while.

I've had mine since April and it's easily the best phone I've ever had. It's fast with a good display and camera and the best thing of all is the battery life. Here in this phone is finally a device on which I don't have to ration the battery to get through the day. I can use it as I wish and be confident that it will see me through.

Had mine since the first day it became available and frankly, it has been a workhorse with exceedingly few issues.

I've had my Note 2 for a couple of weeks and overall I'm really loving the device. Battery life is so awesome with this phone. The big screen is great for everything. I really like using the S pen for gesture or "swipe" typing. The HD camera takes great pictures and videos. I'm still using touch wiz and its definitely got its pros and cons. It's not quite as smooth as vanilla android but it's definitely got way better features.

My only complaint is that Samsung needs to find a way to optimize touch whiz. I'm a bit jealous of Nexus owners who get prompt updates but overall I know I made a great choice going with the note 2 instead of a Nexus 4.

I've owned quite a few smartphones over the years but few that I go "wow it's going to take a hell of a phone to improve on this one". The GNote 2 is one of those phones IMHO.

I agree with the OP that so much this phone does just works and works well, from the screen size and performance to the ability to do just about anything any smartphone can do and do it well. I don't see much wrong with it and I wonder what Sammy is going to do to make me move from this to the GNote 3 at the end of the year.

I received my Note2 back in Feb as a Anniversary gift (that shocked the hell out of me!). Besides not being able to see the screen in very bright days, in Las Vegas its everyday, ive had little to no issues with it.
Just last week I gave in and rooted it. Then 2 days later I decided to flash a rom. Why did I take so long? I can say the rom I chose made this phone night and day! Now that I have everything set up how I like it, its even more of a beast!
Tweaked Rom + 9300mah ZeroLemon Battery + Otterbox Defender Mod = POWER AT YOUR FINGER TIPS!
