My VZW Store Must Use a Network Extender

I know it's not 4g... but wasn't there a leaked photo earlier this year of Verizon installing equipment in Apple stores to enhance the signal for the upcoming iPhone? It wasn't an extender... but something that actually boosted the signal if I recall...

I would think if they can do that for 3g, they probably can do it for the 4g signal too?
I think they can, too, they just haven't released it for purchase by the public probably because they are still working out the kinks in their 4G LTE system.

There is no other explanation for what I see with my phone. The difference in 4G signal strength is remarkable in the store vs. only a 100 feet away.

yeah I get about 8Mbs download while in most of the verizon stores in my area and around 35Mbs while at work and 15Mbs while at home... so no extenders or signal boosters in my area.

Were talking about deception. If im sold a phone, told it has great 4g speed and my area has great coverage, all my other phones have great coverage, and the demo unit i test has great strength, then it's deceptive to not give me what was advertised. It's not a lie since signal may vary, but it's still deceptive.

Yeah no. Its still your responsibility to check your coverage maps.

and as I said, I did and mine shows good 4G LTE coverage and I confirmed with a call to VZW, too - the maps show it, the in-store reps say we have it as do the 1-800 reps.

The thing about the coverage maps is that they are computer generated and do not take into account things like hills. All around Madison, WI it shows as amazing Verizon coverage but because of all the hills it actually sucks balls in a lot of areas.. We've had to move users to US Cellular devices because of it.

How's it deceptive? Its your job as a consumer to check your coverage maps.

LOL the coverage map means jack squat. According to the map I should be getting 4g and I've not been able to pick up 4g on 4 different type phones (Galaxy Nexus, Thunderbolt, LG, Charge). Matter of fact I have to go roughly 10 miles before I pick up a weak signal but yet the "Coverage map" says I'm in coverage...

Sitting here on my back porch, I just now ran a speed test on my 4G. I am getting 19.08 Mbps up and 15.00 Mbps down, no extender. Signal strength is -61, often not as good at my office, but still quite acceptable. Most all around town, Raleigh, NC, 4G is pretty decent.

Does anyone know if the recent 4G network problem has been resolved yet. If so, I may need to get a new phone because its now been almost a week with no 4G on my phone. Yesterday, I drove all around Tampa and St. Pete with no 4G coverage whatsoever....and this whole area is very strong 4G. I'm not sure what I should do....suggestions?

I have been traveling over the holiday and have my 4G back. Been pretty stable for me with the exception of the outage that lasted a few hours a couple days ago. In fact, my signal seems to be better than it had been previously.

I assume you have done a reboot. I would take my phone to one of the many stores you have down there and see what they say.

Good luck.

I appreciate the info. I have rebooted several times and still only seem to get 3 bars of 3G in a major 4G area. I guess I will be stopping into Verizon today.

Except in every contract you sign and every blurb about network speed it specifically says that network speeds vary. Ignorance is not an excuse for this complaint.

There is a huge difference between not getting speeds you might have expected and getting no 4G coverage in an area the map clearly states you should. That is not ignorance on the part of the consumer, that's called deceptive advertising.

No it isn't. Read the contract you signed. Then you'll understand how laughably wrong you are.

well, I figured out the problem with my phone...the sim card was causing the problem. Went to a verizon store and they popped in a new sim and it worked. I did noticed that i got full 4G bars in the store and the parking lot until I started driving home where I currently have 1-2 4G bars...so I would think they are using something to boost the signal somehow. Anyway, 1 or 2 4G bars are better than none so I'm happy!

They claim it is, but they claimed that last time and the time before that. Then again, all three times, they claimed "there was no loss of 3G" though I can personally attest to that not being true!

Some stores do use network extenders for 4g. I went to a store in a poor-to-non existent 4G area and all the phones had 4 bars of 4G. The employee pointed to a white box and said it gives out the 4G signal.

First, regardless of what the contract says, it could still be deceptive. You can put pretty much anything in a contract - that doesn't make it right.

Second, unless you are going to cite the specific clause you are referring to, you probably shouldn't call people "laughably wrong" simply because they have an opinion you don't agree with.

Just my opinion.

1. It's called a repeater - every store of every carrier has one to boost signal. They'd be stupid not to use them.

2. I would be shocked if they ever came out with a 4G extender for consumer use. They would be ridiculously expensive
