This has happened to me twice now. I will go to bed with the phone anywhere between 85-100%. Every night I put it on Airplane Mode when I sleep (i dont like getting messages but I still use my alarm). Twice now I have overslept because my alarm didnt go off because phone was dead!

Anyone else know this feel? What do?

My guess is you have something running in the background... something taking alot of processing power. Put it in airplane mode and see what you have running.

Most people I know keeps their phones plugged in while using their phones as an alarm clock. Sounds like things are syncing or updating a lot throughout the night.

Looks like its time to buy an alarm clock. But really download gsam and see what is running cause in airplane mode u should lose almost nothing maybe 1-3% unless u sleep for like 30hours

Do you leave your phone plugged in at night or not?

When you get it back running, is the battery actually dead (or very near dead)?

I know there are a number of threads about this if you want to search through the forum and see if others have found a solution. Personally, I think it's going to be related to some app you have installed that doesn't run well on JB (and likely doesn't run well on any other OS). Unfortunately, this is difficult to track down. If it was my phone, I'd uninstall every app on my phone outside of Google's stuff and see how it runs for a few days, but I realize that's a bit drastic for most.

Can't sync in airplane mode... no data connection.

Thank you for the ONLY RELEVANT ANSWER in this thread.

Something called "Mediaserver" seems to be bleeding the battery. NOT "Media Server" but "Mediaserver" (one word). What is that?

I think there was a similar post here not that long ago, although the issue there was ads when using the alarm function. Mediaserver was the culprit. Did you download an unofficial version of flash, or a new game that may have had some adware bundled? Read the thread here http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-4/256556-alarm-cant-silenced.html

Also you can get flash from here if it is the culprit.
Archived Flash Player versions

Now that I reread that thread, mediaserver wasn't the problem, but may be worth a read anyways. Sorry.

Found this on google though.
Buggy Android Mediaserver draining your battery ? Connect-UTB

Thanks a lot for your detailed responses. I will look through those links.

Go to apps in settings and totally disable Currents. I found that to be the biggest drain on my battery ever. This will also lower media server to around 5-8% as it should be.

Also, turn off Google Now.

It was the first night with phone not connected to charger. Left at 1am with 100%, got 99% left at 7am. Don't have any automation tools installed: wifi and all other apps are run as during the day.

Try out snap dragons, free app,
battery guru in the app store.

I had this problem for the first time. Went to be with about 90 percent, and it was dead by 7 am. When it was charged back up, I checked to see what was using power, and the display was the biggest. But I have the N4 on my nightstand, so if the screen was on, I would have noticed.

Hopefully this was just a one-time glitch.
