Well this is odd. When I last looked at the phone I still had 98 percent charge. Two hours later, at 8 o'clock in the morning, I pick the phone back up to see if I have any messages. I pushed the power button, the screen stayed blank. I made sure I was pushing the power button correctly a few more times yet the phone would not come back on. I held down the power button for a while still nothing happened. Then I held the power button down and the volume down button at the same time for a few seconds and the phone came back to life. When it came back on , the battery showed to be at 68 percent, the date showed October 14th. The time showed it to be a little after midnight. It took about 3 minutes before the phone would connect to AT&T.
I have to say that was a little bit unnerving. Has anybody else had any similar experiences with the phone not waking up? Does anyone have any thoughts on what could have happened?

That used to happen to my galaxy nexus. I had to do 1 of 2 things to get it to work. Long press the power button for at least 10-15 seconds. Or do a battery pull. It was weird though the screen would light up all black, and display nothing. It has to be some sort of bug

A simple software bug can fix itself in some cases. Even a conflict between apps is not that big of a deal. I'm just nervous about it being a hardware bug specific to my device. I've had to pull the battery on my s3 a couple of times, this phone makes me nervous without that option.

I would think worst case you can always restart the phone from recovery. It's not a big deal.

Doesn't the Nexus 5 have a way to soft reset like the removable battery-less iPhone does?

Not to sound ignorant but, I am familiar with recovery on an iPhone, however I am not familiar with recovery on the Nexus 5. Can somebody elaborate on how to do this.
