Yesterday I've got my #3 replacement N7. After reading all the stories about 4.2 I decided to do a little test. Using Antutu benchmark test I compared scores before and after update. Well, after 4.2.1 the score dropped about 800 points, from 13400-ish to 12500-ish. Wonder why? There were no apps installed except the above mentioned.

I would assume it's because of additional processes used for multiple users, additional Google Now features, etc. I suspect they're going to need to do another optimization of the OS, some kind of butter 2.0.

Aren't all updates about making a device faster and better? Not that I see or notice drop in performance. Just saying.

Better doesn't necessarily mean faster. If you're going to add on features like Google Now without any noticeable drop in performance, I'd call that making it better.

And of course, updates don't necessarily make things faster nor better. I'm looking at you, Apple Maps. Or at least where you think you are.
